In case you missed it: Blush might be the most competitive category in makeup right now. With new formula drops happening daily and the era of overly flushed, sun-kissed cheeks everywhere, beauty pros, Instagram feeds, and even your best friend continue to double down on bold blush. While blush comes in powder and liquid forms, cream is still my go-to for that buildable, dewy flush.
But is cream blush actually better than powder? Not exactly. Makeup artist Lila Childs says it comes down to preference and purpose. “Cream formulas dominate most routines right now, but powder blush is still key for longevity and tying a look together,” she explains. Makeup artist Cade Pearlman agrees, noting that the two work best together: “It’s all about moderation—using cream and powder creates a seamless, long-lasting finish.” Makeup artist Sophia Toland echoes the sentiment: “Cream blush is amazing for that skin-like finish and glow, but powder blush is your best friend for longevity—especially for events like a wedding where you don’t want anything slipping or sliding.”
So, who should be using cream blush? The beauty of it is that it's great for all skin types. If you're oilier, you can set it with a powder to lock it in, and both Childs and Pearlman agree it’s especially flattering on dry, mature skin thanks to its moisture and dewy finish.
When it comes to application, less is more. Toland recommends working product into a brush on the back of your hand and building in thin layers, while Pearlman prefers using fingers for that soft, lit-from-within finish. Applied a little too much? No stress. Childs suggests diffusing with your foundation or concealer brush, while Pearlman recommends blending with leftover complexion product. Toland’s rule is simple: just keep blending.
The bottom line is that cream blush is one of the easiest ways to get that fresh, healthy glow. So, what are you waiting for? I’ve rounded up the best formulas to shop now.

Shades: 14
Finish: Satin
What I Like: Can be used on lips and cheeks; Saturated pigment so it really pops on the skin; Buttery blend
What I Don't: The most popular shades are often sold out
Review for MC: "From the colors to the texture, Rhode's Pocket Blush will forever be my number one. It has the shade for every occasion, from a summer night out to a day in the office, I can always find the perfect color. It's also so easy to blend with my fingers, a sponge, or a brush. The versatility is unmatched." — Siena Gagliano, Beauty Editor
The Merit Flush Balm Cream Blush gives you that soft, just‑flushed look with a lightweight, buildable satin‑balm formula that melts into skin for a natural, lit‑from‑within glow. Its easy to blend dome shape makes application effortless (no brush needed), and the sheer, skin‑like colors enhance your complexion without feeling heavy or cakey. It is ideal for minimalist makeup days or a polished everyday look.
Shades: 12
Finish: Sheer, dewy-radiant
What I Like: A true no-makeup makeup blush; The balmy texture melts into skin seamlessly, giving a soft, diffused wash of color that never looks overdone; It’s incredibly easy to apply
What I Don't: The sheer formula can fade throughout the day, especially on oily skin, and may require layering or setting with powder to last
Review for MC: "I love this formula because I can simply swipe it on straight from the packaging, and blend it with my fingers. I also love the sheer wash of color that I can build up depending on how heavy I want the intensity." — Rebecca Bouleware, Beauty Tester
The Cheeky Posh Cream Blush Stick by Victoria Beckham Beauty delivers a buildable, weightless wash of color with a naturally dewy finish that melts into skin for all‑day wear. Its botanical‑enhanced cream-to-velvet formula blends effortlessly for subtle or bold cheeks, while moisture‑rich ingredients like blue lotus wax and jojoba esters keep skin soft and hydrated, making it feel as chic as it looks.
Shades: 7
Finish: Satin-cream
What I Like: The pigment payoff here is chef’s kiss; One swipe delivers rich, buildable color that blends out seamlessly without losing intensity
What I Don't: It sets a bit faster, so you’ll want to blend quickly to avoid patchiness
Review for MC: It’s one of the few cream blushes that actually gives you impact, pigmented, sculpting, and polished, without losing that skin-like finish. You get that ‘done but not overdone’ look in seconds. — Isabelle Adler, Contributing Beauty Writer
The Morphe Huephoric Rush 3‑in‑1 Silk Blush delivers a smooth, light matte flush you can wear every day or layer for more color payoff. Its silky formula primes, hydrates, and blurs on contact, making it ultra‑blendable and easy to build without looking patchy. And while the formula is matte, it never looks flat. But the best part? The drugstore-adjacent price that makes it ultra-affordable.
Shades: 6
Finish: Soft Matte
What I Like: This is a true hybrid formula; it goes on creamy, then sets down to a velvety, blurred finish that almost looks like a filter on your skin; Matte finish doesn't look flat
What I Don't: If you’re chasing a super dewy, glossy blush moment, this isn’t it—the finish is definitely more matte than radiant
Review for MC: "It’s the perfect in-between blush creamy going on, softly matte once it sets. You get that diffused, airbrushed flush without sacrificing blendability or wear time." — Isabelle Adler, Contributing Beauty Writer
Chances are you’ve seen this blush everywhere. It’s a celeb-favorite (Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson are big fans) and a staple in makeup artists’ kits. The buildable formula from Westman Atelier lets you go from a soft, sheer wash of color to a statement cheek in seconds. Minnette, a pinky-coral, is my personal favorite shade, but if you’re in the mood for something deeper, give Bichette, a deep red, a try.
Shades: 9
Finish: Natural Radiant
What I Like: The formula melts into skin seamlessly, giving that expensive, lit-from-within flush; Can be added at any point in your makeup routine because it layers seamlessly over any product
What I Don't: It’s definitely a luxury splurge
Customer Review: "I wanted to not love this because of the price! But if I do, the color is so nice, but the cream formula blends so nicely and sets and DOES NOT FADE. At the end of the day, my blush is still in place!" — Sephora
Selena Gomez not only has one of the best liquid blushes out there (lookin’ at you, Soft Pinch), but she also dropped an award-worthy cream formula. Just like the name suggests, this blush quite literally melts on for a second-skin finish. It's a great option for anyone who runs on the oily side because while it still has the radiance-boosting effect we’ve come to expect from cream formulas, it’s not too glowy. The finish runs more on the satin side.
Shades: 5
Finish: Soft satin
What I Like: This is the ultimate “your skin but better” blush; The formula melts in instantly, giving a soft-focus, almost diffused flush that looks incredibly natural
What I Don't: The pigment is on the sheerer side, so if you want a bold blush look, it may take some building
Customer Review: "I've been using this for work daily, and it's been wonderful! I love the shade, and it lasts a long time—I don't sweat much at work, so that's a factor to consider. I also like using just my fingers for application to make it easier to control how thick I want it to be." — Sephora
If you like using a brush but want to keep your makeup bag slim, allow me to direct your attention to Makeup by Mario. This product features a creamy, radiant blush on one end and a dense, blending and buffing brush on the other. It genuinely makes the application process easy as can be. All the shades in the range are gorgeous, but my personal favorite is Raspberry. It might look intimidatingly bright, but it gives the most gorgeous pop once it’s on the skin.
Shades: 6
Finish: Natural Dewy
What I Like: This is the perfect balance between pigment and blendability; The creamy texture glides on effortlessly before melting into skin for that soft, sculpted glow
What I Don't: The attached brush isn’t the softest, so if you’re particular about tools, you might reach for your own
Customer Review: "The absolute best cream blush I have ever tried! It goes on so beautifully and stays for a good amount of time. I have to reapply a few times during the day. But besides that, it’s perfect !!!" — Sephora
Summer Fridays’ Blush Butter Balm is all about that soft, diffused glow. Think sheer color meets next-level hydration. The buttery formula melts seamlessly into skin, delivering a dewy, second-skin finish that never looks streaky or overdone. Infused with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and a trio of nourishing butters, it doubles as skincare, leaving cheeks plump, smooth, and radiant.
Shades: 6
Finish: Sheer Dewy
What I Like: This is the definition of a skincare-makeup hybrid; The buttery texture melts instantly into skin
What I Don't: The pigment is intentionally sheer, so if you want bold color payoff, you’ll need to build or layer
Customer Review: "I love this blush, this is the first cream blush I have, and I love this formula and the shade soft strawberry. It’s the perfect shade for my skin, and I look flushed" — Sephora
Is Cream Blush Better Than Powder Blush?
Not exactly—both have their perks, and the magic is often in using them together. Childs explains, “Cream formulas dominate most routines right now, but powder blush is still key for longevity and tying a look together.” Pearlman agrees, adding, “I think both go hand-in-hand. It’s about moderation—using cream and powder together creates a seamless, long-lasting finish.”
The takeaway: cream gives a hydrated, dewy finish, while powder locks in color and ensures staying power. Layering a bit of each can create a natural, lit-from-within glow that lasts all day.
Is Cream Blush Better for Dry or Oily Skin Types?
Cream blush tends to shine on dry and mature skin types thanks to its hydrating, skin-like finish. “It’s especially great for dry skin because of the moisture it provides and the dewy look it creates,” says Pearlman, noting that powder formulas can sometimes emphasize dryness.
That said, it’s not off-limits for oily skin. Childs explains that while cream blush works beautifully across skin types, those with oilier complexions should set it with a powder blush to keep everything in place and extend wear time.
