Well, not only do I currently have the shoppies, but I'm on the verge of throwing out every complexion product I own and starting fresh—especially with light coverage foundations. Let's call it spring cleaning, shall we?
To be fair, it’s been a while since I’ve really gone all in on a full-coverage, beat-to-the-gods moment, but something about turning 29 two weeks ago has prompted me to reevaluate my beauty routines and rituals. At this stage in my life, I prefer light-coverage foundation or nothing at all, especially given my busy lifestyle. I don’t want to worry about my skin always looking perfect or feel weighed down by heavy products, and I want my freckles and imperfections to be visible. There’s something so wonderfully self-assured and confident about embracing the not-so-perfect parts of yourself, and that is the attitude I intend to bring into this new chapter of my life.

This is hands down one of the best complexion products I have ever tried, drugstore or otherwise. I’d consider it light-to-medium coverage, buildable, and complete with a glow that makes it look like you just applied a fresh round of skincare.

This skin tint has gone viral numerous times now, and I completely understand why. Not only are the shades in this line surprisingly versatile, but the formula is also very easy to build up. You can apply it quickly and still look polished and feel confident in just five minutes.
This balm powder has also enjoyed its time as a viral favorite, and once again, it’s for a good reason. Not only is it highly innovative (the name truly reflects the product), but it’s also fantastic for people with oily skin, thanks to the upsalite ingredient that helps keep sebum under control throughout the day.
The Mid Range Ones
They aren’t drugstore prices, nor are they necessarily luxury picks either—but you’re taking that trip to your favorite beauty retailer either way. You’ll also walk out with an incredible haul if either of these makes it into your cart (trust me, they will).
I have been deeply obsessed with this little stick for the past few weeks. It glides onto the skin like butter, my shade match is immaculate, and the packaging makes it easy to pop into my bag and go. People with oily skin, you’ll want to prep well with this one, but the radiance (without shine!) it leaves behind is more than worth it.
It Cosmetics took my favorite formula from its Sunblush line, used it to create this masterpiece, and I rejoice every day. Everything from the sheer, buildable coverage to compact pot packaging, and even the sensorial experience when using this tint, combines to create a fantastic, lightweight complexion product that feels foolproof for anyone at any stage of their makeup journey.
While I’m still waiting patiently for a shade extension to the underpainting palettes, in the meantime, Mary Phillips dropped a banger: the Le Skin Weightless Serum Foundation. It truly is a formula that feels weightless on the skin, which I love, and the shade Tan 240 G blends seamlessly into my skin.
The Luxury Ones
There's always a time and place for a little beauty splurge, in my professional opinion. From the opulent packaging to the mastery of each formulation, the options below are for people who don’t compromise when it comes to their cosmetics.
With the term “light reflecting” in the name, you know you’ll be in for a treat with this NARS formula. It’s comprised almost entirely of skincare ingredients (they make up an incredible 70 percent of the formula), and there are 40 shades to choose from. Sheer it out, build it up—the beauty of this foundation is truly in its versatility.
Who better to have one of the most perfect foundation formulas on the market than the mother of makeup herself, Dame Pat McGrath? The Skin Fetish formula was one of the first truly luxurious complexion products that tried back in 2019, and it’s been the one to beat ever since. The shade range, the sleek component, the gold detailing—it all creates the most divine experience when using this foundation, and to this day, it’s still one of my favorites.
I know so many professional makeup artists who swear by this product. Not only are there over 40 shades to choose from, but the brand has perfected the undertones to be inclusive of olive and neutral ranges, which is still (unfortunately) extremely rare in the industry. If you specifically have trouble with shade matching, there’s a good chance Dior has the light coverage foundation that will finally suit your needs.
It may be pricey, but I’m telling you right now that this foundation is more than worth the price tag. Stunning packaging aside, it literally feels like I’m applying a moisturizer when I use this product, and it never fails to make my skin shine like I am, too. A combination of skin-loving ingredients like Japanese prickly ash, thyme, and chestnut rose extracts acts as antioxidants that help to firm the skin over time, and it bears repeating that the luminosity that this product provides will make you feel like a movie star; there’s no other way to put it. The shade range absolutely needs some work, but if you find a shade that does work for you, jump on it.
