If there are two men who could bottle Sophia Loren's essence into a gold lipstick tube, it's the Dolce Gabbana boys. After all, the Italian screen siren is practically the human embodiment of their telltale Sicilian Dress.
In a collaboration with 81-year-old Loren, Domenico and Stefano dreamed up Sophia Loren No 1, a semi-matte, dark cherry hue deemed "her" red, as it was designed to enhance the natural color of her lips.
But don't worry, a glowing Mediterranean complexion is not a prerequisite, as it's flattering to all skin tones—it just reads a little differently on everyone. While it looks slightly purplish on Loren's caramel-hued skin in her stunning campaign for the shade, on my fair skin it looks like more of a dark pink.
As far as styling goes, you don't need a little black dress and retro bouffant to finish the look either—as I type I'm wearing it with a sweater, jeans, and a messy half-bun. In other words, it's a totally versatile alternative to bright red for fall. And regardless of what you wear it with, you're going to feel glamorous anytime you reach for the shiny gold tube, which is emblazoned with Loren's signature.
