With SXSW behind us and Coachella less than month away, it's officially music festival season. Have you planned your beauty looks accordingly? The trend initially emerged at the beginning of the year when—at Burberry's Fall 2016 Men's show—the Brit fashion house paid tribute to the late David Bowie by adorning half the models with sparkly "tears of joy," as makeup artist Wendy Rowe likes to call them. Not long after, our January cover girl Suki Waterhouse donned a speckling of gold glitter underneath her eyes at the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies premiere.
Soon after that, Elle Fanning had a go of it in what may or may not have been another tribute to Ziggy Stardust himself at the Saint Laurent show at the Hollywood Palladium in L.A..
On the heels of these major red carpet and runway moments, the #glittertears hashtag has been full of different takes on the look, ranging from literal sparkly tear drops to bold geometric lines (see below).
To give yourself a cool-girl dusting, all you have to do is use something like a slick of sunscreen or a highlighter crayon (like Burberry's Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen) as an adhesive base underneath the eye, then tap on glitter underneath the eyes to your heart's content.
Just be careful that Axl Rose doesn't bring you to actual tears during "Sweet Child o' Mine" at Coachella, okay?
