Jessica Alba Reveals Her Biggest Family Tradition for the Holidays
Hint: It's spicy.
Jessica Alba might be the closest thing we have to Superwoman. The actress runs a billion-dollar enterprise—The Honest Companythat focuses on eco-friendly kids' products, while also giving her time to philanthropic causes, lest you forget, she's also a mother of two—Honor, 7, Haven, 4. In sum, she certainly keeps busy.
she doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Her newest project? Partnering with Tiny Prints for the Baby2Baby Holiday Card Collection, with designs she created exclusively for the release. The best part is that they're like a gift that keeps on giving, as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Baby2Baby—helping the non-profit provide basics to low-income children.
We caught up with Alba to talk about the partnership, her favorite holiday tradition, the #1 thing on her family bucket list.
Marie Claire: What made you want to collaborate with Tiny Prints?
Jessica Alba: With my involvement with Baby2Baby as a board member ambassador, I loved the creativity behind the Tiny Prints partnership to give back this holiday season. Tiny Prints has amazing personalized stationery holiday cards a percentage of every sale goes to Baby2Baby. It matters so much to me that Tiny Prints celebrates the power of gratitude, especially during this time of year. By designing my very own holiday card collection, I had the opportunity to be a part of something special help further Baby2Baby's mission to provide low-income children ages zero to 12 with diapers, clothing all the basic necessities that every child deserves.
MC: Are there any holiday traditions you do now with your family?
JA: I love holiday traditions. We have a big family friend sit-down dinner. Cash, me, my parents throw down in the kitchen my dad makes the most yummy tender turkeys. He makes a spicy version—seasoned with fresh jalapeños— a classic version with all the fixings. We love Christmas caroling with an improv version of 12 days of Christmas that's always pretty epic. We also do our version of a Elephant that's an ornament exchange for all the adults.
MC: You're such an advocate for mothers—whether with your support of Baby2Baby even in the work of The Honest Company. What do you think is the biggest hurdle or obstacle for women mothers today?
JA: The biggest hurdle for women mothers today is not enough time! Besides that, it's about ensuring that we support mothers who work hard to take care of their families. At my company, we're showing that we value their contributions what their families mean to them. As of January 1st, 2016, our employee benefits will offer an of the paid leave allowance for all new parents, including 16 weeks maternity leave.
MC: Your upcoming projects—including Mechanic: Resurrection and The Veil—are completely different. What's the common thread to the projects you tend to take on?
JA: They all represent a challenge. I like telling a story that explores different sides of myself and pushes me, whether that's physical or emotional.
MC: What's something you haven't done yet that you want to do in the future?
JA: I would love to take my kids on a road trip through the U.S.!
