Who Is Brody Jenner's Ex Kaitlynn Carter?

When Kaitlynn Carter and Brody Jenner made their relationship status official in 2014, Jenner had already been off The Hills for nearly half a decade. But now, in a full circle moment, Jenner, 35, and Carter, 30, are starring on the reboot, The Hills: New Beginnings, together as husband and wife...or so we thought. According to TMZ, Jenner and Carter are reportedly breaking up as of August 2019, a couple months after The Hills: New Beginnings premiered on MTV, and were also never officially married? 

"He was really honest about what he wanted, no messing around, and I found that really charming and refreshing," Carter told People of her first meeting with Jenner at a party in 2013. "Pretty soon after we started dating, I thought it could be for life."

If you watched The Hills, that doesn't exactly sound like Brody, but then again pretty much everything about it was...less than real. TMZ reports that Jenner and Carter had a special wedding ceremony in Indonesia (more on that later), but never had a legal marriage license in the States. Hence, the breakup.

“Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” their rep told US Weekly. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”

A week later, Carter was spotted kissing none other than Miley Cyrus on vacation in Italy—hours before Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their breakup formally through a rep. You can see all the photos here.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers," Cyrus and Hemsworth's rep said in a statement later that day. "They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Carter also posted photos with Cyrus on their vacation, which led to even more drama (more on that below).

Miley has been open about her sexuality, describing herself as a "queer person in a hetero relationship" when she and Hemsworth were still together. And earlier this summer, she told ELLE: "I definitely don't fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don't even like that word."

Since their debut in Italy, Carter and Cyrus have continued going strong. Carter showed up at the VMAs to support Cyrus during a last-minute performance of Cyrus' new song "Slide Away," and the two held hands as they left the venue. It's even been reported that the new couple have moved in together.

Her photos with Cyrus sparked drama with Jenner.

After presumably seeing the photos of Cyrus and his ex making out, Brody posted a musing photo with the caption, "Don't let yesterday take up too much of today." Subtle, Brody. Even less subtle was his The Hills costar Brandon Thomas Lee, who wrote on the photo, "Let's round this scandal out and post a pic of us making out."

Brody responded to Thomas Lee on Instagram: "Watch out! Pics of Liam and I holding hands on the beach coming soon!"

That's when Cyrus herself jumped in. "@brodyjenner Go take a nap in your truck and cool off," she wrote, adding an emoji of two women and the hashtag "#HotGirlSummer."

Shortly afterwards, Jenner told a reporter, "I'm not going to answer that bullsh*t" when asked about whether Kaitlynn is "having an affair" with Cyrus. Meanwhile, Thomas Lee was on a diatribe of his own, telling E!, "It's just like—why? They're obviously messing with their two ex-husbands."

Cyrus' only response? An Instagram she posted in which she cryptically noted: "Life's a climb... but the view is great."

She's been with Miley nonstop since their vacation in Italy.

This is way more than a summer fling. The couple spent Labor Day weekend together, were photographed leaving the VMAs holding hands after Miley's performance, and it was even reported in September that the couple had moved in together.

Liam may have an inkling that things were serious between Kaitlynn and Miley—the kissing photos were reportedly what led Liam to file for divorce.

Brody and Kaitlynn had been together for more than five years...

Kaitlynn posted a sweet Instagram celebrating her and Brody's anniversary last October:

"Happy 5 years to the most genuine, loving, fun, goofy, affectionate, kind and beautiful person I’ve ever had the fortune to have in my life," she captioned the post. "You’re more than my husband and more than my best friend. you’re EVERYTHING to me. I am so fortunate to be sitting here next to you 1,825 days from the day we met feeling like every day gets better and better and I love you even more and more. let’s just keep doing what we’re doing cause it’s working!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Now let’s go stuff ourselves at Melting Pot and pray our Halloween costumes still fit tomorrow 😛😛"

...And they had the most beautiful wedding ceremony on Nihi Sumba Island.

The couple (supposedly) wed in June 2018 in Indonesia. (Though, FWIW, Brody's kin, the Kardashians weren't in attendance, and Kendall and Kylie apparently didn't even RSVP.)

They were open about their sex life.

Remember when Brody had a talk show called Sex with Brody? Yeah, well, he didn't exactly hold back about his and Kaitlynn's sex life when he did interviews then. "I'd have to say [the best sex I’ve ever had is] with my girlfriend, Kaitlynn," he told GQ in 2015. "We have the best sex together, but we also switch it up and do fun things as well. We're not opposed to having somebody else join in on our sexcapades."

Kaitlynn founded a blog called The Western Wild in 2014.

Since then, the New Hampshire native has rebranded the blog to "Hey, Miss Carter." "You’ll be able to keep up with all I find worth sharing about fashion, beauty and travel by visiting my homepage regularly," she wrote on the site. "There you’ll find all my latest editorial features! If you’d like to hear what I’m up to on the daily, just check out my digital diary. That will be filled with all my unfiltered, unorganized daily thoughts and happenings. As a writer by nature, I thought this would be the best way for you all to get to know me!"

Then she founded Foray Collective in 2015 with her friend, Tiana Haraguchi.

The e-commerce site focuses on showcasing emerging brands and their muses, like "bloggers, Instagramers, celebrities, and rule-breakers who think (and dress) outside the box, resulting in infectious personal style." Basically, it's a site where you can shop influencers and bloggers' styles. The Western Wild helped Carter get her contacts for Foray Collective.

"A big part of the way we get exposure for Foray Collective is through my connections in the blogging industry, so it’s critical that I stay involved in that world," Carter told Fashion Week Daily in 2015. "A lot of the brands on our site are brands I’ve worked with through my blog or friends that I’ve made at blogger events.

She didn't exactly picture herself doing reality television.

"For the longest time I’d always say no. I’ve had a lot of people approach me about that, related to my blog and being in the L.A. social scene," she said in the same Fashion Week Daily interview. "I’ve taken a meeting but it’s never felt right to me because I don’t want to be involved in a show that’s based on character drama. But I’d be interested in doing a reality show based on women’s careers in the blogging industry, and maybe the development of a startup like Foray that focuses on situational drama."
