Cory Monteith's Mom Opens Up About His Death for the First Time

One year after the untimely death of Cory Monteith, his mother, Ann McGregor, has spoken out for the first time in an emotional interview with Good Morning America. "The loss is horrendous," she said. "Until three days ago I couldn't look at a picture of Cory...So there's been progress."

While still unable to discuss the night of her son's death, she is willing to discuss his past. McGregor talked about Monteith's first "code Blue," the hospital emergency code indicating a patient needs immediate attention, usually due to a cardiac arrest. "[When] Cory was 15, he did a Code Blue," she said. "I think that was the turning point. He had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out. A lot of it was he really wanted a relationship with his father. I think when a child gets invalidated they keep reaching even harder. They want to find out why. I remember after Cory's first OD, the drive we took, and all we did was stare into his eyes and hug him and look at him, because I had this feeling: I really wanna know him because I'm not going to have him my entire life. That was way back then."

Monteith was estranged from his father for most of his life following his parents' divorce in 1989, People magazine previously reported.
