Want more Khloé Kardashian with your kocktails? The author/reality star is gearing up for her new show Revenge Body, which will feature mere mortals going on physical journeys to be their best selves.
Khloé put together a questionnaire for her applicants, which includes the inquiry "What are some of the most embarrassing moments you experienced as a kid?" For Khloé, these moments relate to the shame she felt for being "the chubby one."
"When I was little and all my friends would be in their bathing suits at the beach or pool parties or summer camp, I would always be the chubby one," she writes on her website. "I never felt comfortable. I would make up a story to get out of those situations."
Khloé says she was "chubby" from ages 1014, and felt like even adults judged her size. "Teachers would always say to me, 'You're really Kim and Kourtney's younger sister?' They wouldn't outright say 'you're ugly' or 'you're fat,' but adults need to realize what their words do to kids. A 10-year-old can still pick up on that energy."
The upside is that Khloé's experience being body-shamed at clothing stores helped shape her own business practices. "I'd be out shopping and ask them if they had a size 8," she says. "Their response would be, "No, we don't carry that size.' It's about how they said it, too. I would rather they just say, 'We sold out of that size.' Now that I run a clothing store, I would never, ever say, 'We don't carry that size.'"
Khloé's body-image woes are probably relatable to most women, so lessons learned: 1. Only buy clothes from DASH. 2. In the profound words of John Mayer, your body is a wonderland. 3. In the even more profound words of Christina Aguilera, "I am beautiful, no matter what they say."
