The TSA has literally zero chill when it comes to airport security, which is pretty understandable. But there's a difference between asking a random wandering through the airport in Uggs (read: me) to ditch her Starbucks and asking a mom like Rose Byrne to ditch her breast milk.
The X-Men: Apocalypse actress told Stephen Colbert that her pumped milk was confiscated by airport security during a recent trip, and while she seemed to have a pretty chipper attitude about it, this story is all too familiar.
The TSA allows passengers to bring quart-sized bags of liquids in carry on, but there's an exemption for "child nourishment." From the TSA: "Formula, breast milk, and juice for infants or toddlers are permitted through the security checkpoint. Separate formula, breast milk, and juice from other liquids, gels, and aerosols limited to 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters."
Byrne's milk was over the limit (because GOD FORBID her baby might be hungry for more than exactly 3.4 ounces of nourishment), so she had to prove she didn't have ulterior breast milk motives. "They wave this weird thing over the top of it and there's this production going on," she told Colbert. "I just stand there and smile and tell them that it's really breast milk."
PSA to the TSA: it is not up to you to decide how much food someone else's baby needs. 😇
