Prepare to be massively disappointed, because Karl Lagerfeld has spoken out about the attack against Kim Kardashian in Paris, and his comments are best defined as victim-blaming. While the famed Chanel designer and friend to the Kardashians expressed concern for Kim on Instagram, he also said her attack was a product of flaunting her wealth.
"You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you," Lagerfeld told reporters after his Chanel show. "If you're that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room. I think it's a very bad thing for Paris, but I don't understand why she was in a hotel with no security."
Okay, first of all, it's not exactly like Karl Lagerfeld's vibe screams modesty:
We can't imagine Lagerfeld would blame himself if attacked, but if so he can take comfort in the fact that no one is responsible for assault except the people doing the assaulting. Therefore, no one is responsible for robbing, binding and gagging Kim except the men who did it to her. The tendency to blame victims is a dangerous but ubiquitous one, and it's time to shut it down.
