Viola Davis is one amazing acceptance-speech giver. And her reaction to winning Best Supporting Actress for Fences at the 2017 Golden Globes continued to prove as much.
In her speech, she thanked August Wilson for bringing the story to life: "It's not every day that Hollywood thinks of translating a play to screen," she said. "It doesn't scream 'moneymaker.' But it does scream 'art.' It does scream 'heart.'"
Davis previously won a Tony Award for the 2010 stage adaptation of Wilson's play, and in the film version, directed by costar Denzel Washington, she reprises her role as Rose, the wife of an aging garbage man in 1950s Pennsylvania. Here, her full, inspiring speech:
