BLACKPINK's 'Light Up the Sky' Netflix Documentary: Everything We Know

It's everything BLINKs could dream of, and more.

Forget pumpkin spice lattes, fall foliage, and anything else that makes the usual person excited about October. The real excitement, at least for BLINKs, is BLACKPINK's Netflix documentary Light Up the Sky, which drops globally on the streaming service this month. The film will feature plenty of appearances by and BTS footage of your four favorite ladies: Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo. Read ahead for everything to know about Light Up the Sky. Trust me: It'll be more addicting to watch than BLACKPINK's dance practice videos (which I personally have seen at least five times—each).

What's Light Up the Sky About?

The 79-minute documentary will share never-before-seen footage of its four members during their journey to becoming the highest-charting female K-pop group of all time. Some fast facts, in case you forgot their many record-breaking achievements thus far: BLACKPINK was the first female Korean group to perform at Coachella; they were the first K-pop girl group to win an MTV Music Video Award; and their latest song, Ice Cream, is now the longest-charting Korean girl group song in Hot 100 history.

Light Up the Sky, directed by Caroline Suh of Netflix's Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat (another great docu-series), will dive deep into the lives of each of the group's four artists. Jisoo is described in the doc as the "whip-smart unnie" (Korean for "big sister"), Jennie is the rapper "whose fierce onstage persona contrasts with her soft-spoken nature," Rosé is the charming Aussie who's "coming into her own as a singer-songwriter," and there's Lisa, who rounds out the group with her dancing abilities and infectiously spunky personality.

The film promises to show the "ups and downs" experienced by each artist as they chart their path in the entertainment industry while also showing the relatable, unfiltered sides of the group. In fact, Netflix even recorded the BLACKPINK members watching the Light Up the Sky trailer for the first time. In the clip, Lisa jokes, "They might think we're weird kids." Jisoo adds, "Please accept us. It is us in our natural state, instead of the perfect dream image we usually present, and it is truly a more genuine look at our early training, and us recording together, and basically a deeper look at all of us."

Light Up the Sky drops just weeks after the ladies released The Album, the group's first full-length album since their 2016 debut. October is clearly set to be a huge month for the four artists.
