Aaron Paul Crashed This Charity's Website After His Emmy Speech
The anti-bullying Kind Campaign got a big boost.
Breaking Bad cleaned up at this year's Emmys, but Best Supporting Actor winner Aaron Paul didn't use his big speech to gloat. Instead, he took the time to shout out his wife's amazing work and raise awareness about bullying.
At the very end of his acceptance speech, he turned to his wife, Lauren:
"And to my wife, my God. Thank you for marrying me, thank you for dedicating your life to [spreading] kindness across the world. We all appreciate it. If you guys don't know what she does, look up Kind Campaign, do yourself and your children a favor."
Fans took Paul's advice and headed to the Kind Campaign's website in droves. According to Business Insider, the attention caused the site to temporarily crash. It still showed connectivity issues the day after Paul's speech.
Founded by Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson in 2009, the Kind Campaign aims to raise awareness of female bullying by holding events at schools across the country. This September, they will start delivering Kind Kits, which feature their 2010 documentary, Finding Kind, and a 19-week curriculum for educators.
The two founders say they started their campaign because they were victims of bullying and harassment throughout middle school and high school. They say their nonprofit is part of a new wave of anti-bullying sentiment in schools. "There is finally a conversation that bullying is not cool," Lauren told USA Todayearlier this month. "We are at the forefront of change."
