    Since her breakout role as Selena Quintanilla in Selena, Jennifer Lopez has made Hollywood her oyster. A triple threat through and through, she's dropped more than a few albums, casually broke the internet with that Versace dress, and shared her love life—and heartbreak—with the world. Through it all, however, she's continued to create an incredible collection of incredible films to stream (minus Gigli, of course, but hey, we all have our Achilles' heel).

    Ranging from lighthearted rom-coms like The Back-up Plan to blockbusters like the upcoming Kiss of the Spider Woman, which is already garnering Oscar buzz, the best Jennifer Lopez movies have stuck with us years after our first viewing, searing themselves into our brains with all the heart, suspense, and grit our gal could muster.

    It's time to get comfortable, grab a snack, and cue the feels: We've ranked the best J.Lo movies.

    21. 'Anaconda' (1997)

    Jennifer Lopez in the water in #039;Anaconda#039;

    (Image credit: Sony PIctures Releasing)

    Jennifer Lopez was on the precipice of world domination in 1997. Not only did she take our breaths away with her breakout role as Selena Quintanilla in Selena, but she also had a (slightly less memorable) role as Terri Flores in Anaconda. Terri is a National Geographic documentary crew director who, along with her team, gets taken hostage by a crazed hunter out for the world's largest anaconda. Jon Voight, Ice Cube, and Owen Wilson, and a very large reptile also star.

    (Image credit: Miramax Films)

    It may not have the same widespread recognition as The Wedding Planner, but 2004's Shall We Dance is still lighthearted and charming enough to delight fans of Jen's more uplifting works. In it, our girl plays a fiery dance instructor named Paulina who helps an overworked attorney named John Clark (Richard Gere) get his groove back as he learns the artform of dance. Come for the feels, and stay for Stanley Tucci's hilarious antics as Link.

    18. 'Shotgun Wedding' (2022)

    Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel in distressed wedding clothes on a beach in #039;Shotgun Wedding#039;

    (Image credit: Amazon Studios)

    After years of leaving us without a J.Lo rom-com to rewatch, this 2022 option arrived like a tall drink of water in the desert. It's also less predictable than most since the two main characters (played by Lopez and Josh Duhamel) must balance being taken hostage and saving their would-be wedding guests with getting their romance in.

    17. 'Second Act' (2018)

    (Image credit: STXfilms)

    Second Act is like the hit series Younger, only for the big screen. A Value Shop assistant manager to "Madison Ave girl boss," 40-something Maya (Lopez) has just landed a job at a top corporation thanks to luck and a little bit of mistaken identity. Now, she'll have to juggle it all against the life she's leaving behind on her way to the top.

    Not since Enough have we seen Lopez so primal. She plays newly divorced high-school teacher Claire Peterson, who may or may not have taken her harmless flirtation with the teenage boy next door (Ryan Guzman) one step too far. Now, she and her son Kevin (Ian Nelson) will need to deal with the Lifetime movie-sized consequences of her liaison.

    Celebrity crossover films ruled the 2010s, so naturally, our queen came for the star-studded crown. Here, she rubs cinematic shoulders with Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison, Chris Rock, Elizabeth Banks, and Chace Crawford (to name a few) as Holly, a photographer who wants to adopt a child, even though her husband (Rodrigo Santoro) isn't exactly on the same page.

    14. 'Atlas' (2024)

    (Image credit: ASAP Entertainment)

    A newer addition to the singer/actress’s repertoire for 2024, Atlas sees the superstar taking on everyone’s new collective enemy: AI bots. Is it her best or most serious work? Maybe not, but it’s fun to see her in a new light, thanks to its out-of-pocket Marvel-like storyline.

    13. 'Enough' (2002)

    Jennifer Lopez putting up her arms to box in the movie enough

    (Image credit: Sony Pictures Releasing)

    Enough certainly has its flaws: While the domestic abuse issue the film deals with is very real, the plot itself is a bit far-fetched at times. Still, Lopez's turn as Slim Hiller, a woman who thinks her new husband, Mitch (Billy Campbell), is borderline perfect before finding out he has a violent side, has become a classic in her catalog. Honestly, the memorable training scenes she shares with Bruce A. Young in which he prepares her to fight back are worth a rewatch alone.

    (Image credit: Fox Searchlight Pictures)

    Proving yet again she could go toe-to-toe with the greats, Lopez stars opposite Jack Nicholson in this edge-of-your-seat crime thriller. She took home more than accolades while playing Gabriela, a woman who finds herself on the run from her ex-lover in an attempt to make sure he doesn't get away with a priceless diamond necklace. According to the actress, she also picked up a thing or two from Nicholson. "[He told] me to be more aware of the camera," she later recalled, quoting the actor as saying, 'If the camera doesn't see it, nobody cares, Jennifer.' I think that was a good piece of advice that I kept forever," she said.

    Based on true events, Lopez is part of an all-star cast (including Martin Sheen and Antonio Banderas) as Chicago Sentinel reporter Lauren Adrian. Her character is on assignment down in Juárez, Mexico to find out who is behind the murders and disappearances of hundreds of female factory workers, culminating in a film that will both move and stick with you.

    (Image credit: Universal Pictures)

    The plot of 2022’s Marry Me, which sees three-times married (and three-times divorced) pop star Kat Valdez (Lopez) throwing caution to the wind when she marries a concert-goer who holds up a proposal sign, won’t be unfamiliar to J.Lo fans. “This movie is personal for me,” Lopez, who has been married four times and engaged six, said during a Marry Me concert event. “This came out of my own experience —the journey to the love of your life. Sometimes, it has its ups and downs, unexpected twists and turns. But what I’ve learned is that you have to find yourself before you can find that person who’s gonna complete the picture,” she said. Her chemistry with Owen Wilson and the original songs aren't shabby, either!

    10. 'The Back-up Plan' (2010)

    Jennifer Lopez looks enchanted in #039;The Backup Plan#039;

    (Image credit: CBS Films)

    If you ask us, this 2010 rom-com about a woman named Zoe (Lopez) who gets pregnant by a sperm donor but soon after finds "the one" doesn't get nearly enough credit. Sure, there's some over-the-top cheesiness (her first date with Stan, played by Alex O'Loughlin, ends up in literal flames), but it's also a highly entertaining watch with just enough heart.

    9. 'The Cell' (2000)

    Jennifer Lopez wearing a nun-like outfit and standing in front of a shiny crown in a still from #039;The Cell#039;

    (Image credit: New Line Cinema)

    In this seriously creepy serial killer movie, Lopez plays a psychotherapist tasked by the FBI to go inside the mind of a murderer to find out where his latest victim is hidden. While the movie received mixed reviews, Roger Ebert was in the "pro" camp, naming it one of the 10 best movies of 2000 and deeming J.Lo's performance as "quiet, grave, and confident."

    8. 'Jack' (1996)

    Even early in her career, Lopez held her own against Hollywood heavyweights like Diane Lane and Robin Williams. She co-starred alongside the pair in Jack, a 1996 film about a boy (Williams) with an unusual disorder that makes him age four times faster than normal. Lopez plays Williams's 5th-grade teacher, Miss Marquez, and while she wasn't the film's focus, she nailed her role as a kind-hearted educator.

    (Image credit: Picturehouse)

    Where Jen and Ben lacked on-screen chemistry in Gigli, she and Marc Anthony (whom she was married to from 2004 to 2014) brought heat in this biopic about the famous singer Héctor Lavoe. (Their musical numbers are great, too.) Lopez plays Lavoe's wife, Nilda Georgina "Puchi" Román, and felt so strongly about her performance, she thought it could be her magnum opus. "I feel like I had that [Oscar-worthy role] in El Cantante, but I don’t think the academy members saw it,” she told Latina magazine. At least it's in our top 10, Jen!

    J.Lo did her homework while prepping for her 2024 role as Judy Robles, the real-life mother of 2011 NCAA wrestling national champion Anthony Robles, who was born without a right leg. Judy told Parade that the actress made the time to talk to her and dive into her perspective. Said Lopez, "We connected as moms...I was like, 'I'm a mom, too. This is Anthony's story. You're his mom, but also I want to know about you.' I wanted to really know about her and what it was like to have a baby at 16 years old." Lopez's diligence paid off—her performance was highly lauded by audience-goers and critics alike.

    5. 'Out of Sight' (1998)

    Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney lean in for a kiss in the movie #039;Out of Sight#039;

    (Image credit: Universal Pictures)

    If loving J.Lo as a U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco is wrong, we don't want to be right! Especially when it comes to her having some major heart-eyes for a particular bank robber (played by George Clooney). While this '90s movie can be categorized as your typical bank heist flick, it's executed extremely well: The film directed by Steven Soderbergh nabbed Academy Award noms for Best Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing.

    4. 'Hustlers' (2019)

    Lopez proved that gravity was no match for a good workout as Hustlers's Ramona, the leader of a wolf pack of smart sex workers (Constance Wu, Cardi B, Keke Palmer, and Lili Reinhart) trying to get by in the height of the 2008 financial crisis. More than showing her clubmates new dance moves, she introduces them to a risky get-rich scheme that will change their trajectories for good. While Lopez received Academy Award buzz for her role, she was ultimately snubbed for a nomination—which we'd argue was one of the biggest snubs in Oscars history.

    3. 'Maid in Manhattan' (2002)

    Jennifer Lopez as a maid in #039;Maid in Manhattan#039;

    (Image credit: Sony Pictures Releasing)

    In this Cinderella-like tale, hotel maid Marisa Ventura is mistaken for a socialite while on a routine cleaning shift by a handsome politician (Ralph Fiennes), and the pair begin a whirlwind romance. Naturally, things get complicated once her true identity is revealed, but Ventura, played brilliantly by Lopez, is much more than meets the eye. It's funny, quotable, and has a feel-good ending, putting it firmly in our top echelon of rom-coms.

    2. 'Selena' (1997)

    (Image credit: Warner Bros.)

    Lopez's breakout role as the famous Mexican Tejano style singer Selena Quintanilla in Selena, one of the best music biopics of all time, is near perfection. It's frankly no surprise that she completely embodied the late hitmaker, considering the level of commitment the "Jenny From the Block" singer brought to the role. To fully channel the musical icon, Lopez lived with Quintanilla's sister, Suzette, for four months. Though she doesn't sing in the film, she channels the beloved music icon's effervescence and stage performance—so much so that the performance earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.

    Matthew McConaughey helps Jennifer Lopez after she#039;s fallen on the street in the movie #039;The Wedding Planner#039;

    (Image credit: Sony Pictures Releasing)

    You can't talk about J.Lo films without immediately calling to mind Mary Fiore. In this classic '00s movie, she plays a workaholic wedding planner who is unlucky in love but great at helping people get hitched—at least until the perfect guy she meets by chance turns out to be the groom of her latest client. Somehow, Lopez is lovable enough to make us root for her to wind up with Steve (Matthew McConaughey) even though he's already engaged and a complete conflict of professional interest. She's that good!
