Spider-Man's Girlfriend Is Now a Badass Superhero
Meet Spider-Gwen, your new favorite heroine.
Yassss. The comic book world just got a new superhero—and it's a good one. Gwen Stacy, the girlfriend of Peter Parker AKA Spider-man, is set to become a hero in her own right.
In the moment that changed comic book history, because the idea that heroes can't save everyone was a pretty dark twist back then, Parker's girlfriend is (SPOILER ALERT) killed in the final pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #121. But—what if she wasn't? What if, in some weird alternate universe, she lived—while Peter Parker died? And what if she took on his powers?
Well, the what-ifs are gone. It's here: Spider-Gwen #1 hit shelves on Wednesday, and it's already made some serious waves.
"It's a rare character that gets the public outcry that Spider-Gwen got," Marvel senior editor Nick Lowe said after the release. "From the sell-out of Gwen's first appearance to the groundswell on Twitter we're excited to bring more Spider-Gwen into the world with the creators who started it all."
