Update, 10/1: George R.R. Martin has an assistant who emailed the Huffington Post denying that there will be a Game of Thrones movie.

Rendering his assistant obsolete, George R.R. Martin himself also emailed the Huffington Post denying that there will be a Game of Thrones movie. "There's been talk about it," he said. "I'd love to see one, but nothing is decided." He also left a comment on his own LiveJournal page, which read "No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion."

Finally, a representative from HBO sent a third email to the Huffington Post, writing that the Daily Star story was "not at all correct."

If there is anything to be learned from this incident, it is that email makes the world go 'round. And that George R.R. Martin is the man.

Original story, 9/30: If you've ever been like, "Hmmm. I wish I could experience every throat-slit from the Red Wedding in IMAX," have we got news for you: There will be a movie version of Game of Thrones, and there will be resurrection of the Ned. I mean, dead.

According to the Daily Star (via the Week), George R.R. Martin spilled the beans himself at an Emmys after-party, where he presumably schmoozed and gave press interviews instead of finishing those last two books.

"There will be a movie but I will not be involved," he said. "I have too much to do. That is something HBO and D.B. and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do. The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don't write faster." [Editor's note: You can say that again.]

Speaking separately, a source alleged that with "no constraints on when the story will take place," the filmmakers might start at an earlier point when characters such as Robb and Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell, and Ned Stark are still alive.

Also on the (my) agenda: sweeping Lord of the Rings-style landscape shots, epic battle scenes, and OH MAYBE MORE, UN-MURDERED KIT HARINGTON? A girl can hope.
