For fall, American designers Marc Jacobs and Christopher John Rogers presented transportive "night at the opera" fantasies, floating bold gowns with satin gloves down the runway. Little did we know that just a few weeks later, the idea of putting on a gown—or any kind of proper clothing, really—would become a distant memory.

Now, after several months spent at home, we're starting to dream about what it will be like to emerge from our quarantine cocoons when it's safe to do so—an event that will be truly worth celebrating—and embrace the beautiful butterfly we are. This might mean different things for different people. Maybe it's wearing a cardigan instead of a sweatshirt; trying a shimmery makeup look to boost your spirits; or even slipping on an embellished mule in place of those raggedy socks—but any little thing helps. Dressing to the nines is different these days, but one thing is certain. It's time to let yourself feel inspired by fashion again.

This story is a love letter to fashion and fashion's beautiful capitals. It is a reminder that you'll travel to Rome, wear a feathered gown, and dance with your loved ones once again. But for now, it's time to welcome fashion back into your life, because we can all use a little bit of fantasy.
