Amanda Gorman Is A Modern Lady Liberty at the 2021 Met Gala
Her laurel crown was inspired by the Statue of Liberty herself.
Hello and welcome to the 2021 Met Gala red carpet, where the stars are already showing up in jaw-dropping fashion. Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman just made her first appearance on the Met steps in New York City, and she's channeling an all-American icon: the Statue of Liberty!
Gorman’s gown is a custom Vera Wang creation, and the dress was created in a striking deep royal blue hue that’s meant to signify the starry night sky. Sticking to the theme, Gorman is accessorized with a book-shaped clutch bag and a custom silver laurel headband created for her by New York City-based designer Jennifer Behr over the top of a flowing long braid. The hairpiece is actually a rendition of Behr's classic Arielle Chignon Wrap and features hundreds of hand-set Swarovski crystals. Gorman's beauty look matched the rest of the look to a Tshe sported a slew of silver glittery stars across her cheekbones and forehead.
The theme at the Met Gala tonight is a celebration of American fashion, and Gorman is actually one of the evening’s co-chairs. She joins fellow chairs Timothee Chalamet—who has already arrived on the red carpet tonight—and Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka.
