Forget Chunky Shoes—Spring 2026’s Slim Sneakers Are Here to Stay

After years of oversized soles, fashion is embracing a cleaner, lower-profile style.

Once upon a time, chunky trainers dominated the fashion crowd. I’m specifically referring to the late twenty-teens, when A-listers embraced the bulky dadcore style alongside sweat sets and Pilates uniforms (athleisure was at its peak back then). But a few years later, the pendulum swung: the Adidas Sambas craze took hold, followed by a collective obsession with Onitsuka Tigers and Puma Speedcats. Just like that, slim sneakers became the shoe trend of choice.

This spring, little has changed. It girls are still swooning over the slender silhouette—just take a look at the celebrity crowd for proof. Days ago, Jennifer Lawrence endorsed the coveted Adidas Tokyo sneakers, defined by their narrow shape and signature three-striped design. Around the same time, Hailey Bieber stepped out in a pair of white leather Miu Miu kicks, complete with a curved toe box, delicate laces, and gum soles. And last week, Zendaya was spotted in sleek sneakers from Swiss sportswear label On. The yet-to-be-identified shoes featured criss-crossed navy blue straps and an emerald green trim.

This ongoing infatuation with form-fitting sneakers points to a broader shift in fashion, one rooted in a growing fixation on vintage-inspired footwear. I’ve noticed style insiders stocking their closets with polished Mary Janes, lofty high-vamp heels, and even playful jelly sandals. To that end, the staying power of slim sneakers feels less surprising, and more inevitable.

Even with retro roots, designers are finding ways to make the old-school style feel fresh. During the Spring 2026 fashion week season, Dries Van Noten debuted a glossy pair in a striking cherry-red finish. Meanwhile, Simone Rocha showcased delicate sneakerinas, a hybrid style merging ballet flats with runners. Lacoste, on the other hand, offered a more whimsical version made with a flappy, folded-over tongue.
