Here’s How I’m Styling Red as a Spring Neutral

Even minimalists can embrace the fiery color trend.

As someone who doesn’t typically wear much color, red has become the one shade I consistently find myself styling. Lately, I’ve been noticing a similar shift on the runway too, with designers using red not just as an accent, but as the foundation of an entire look.

My interest was sparked during a visit to the Lévy Gorvy Dayan gallery to see Domenico Gnoli’s work. His hyper-close depictions of clothing in "Red Tie Knot" and "Red Dress Collar" used a specific red that perfectly captured the feeling of spring.

Following that visit, I conducted some "market research" along Fifth Avenue. At Chanel, Celine, Bottega Veneta, and Prada, I noticed styles that reinforced a new perspective: red is not just a loud, occasional choice, but a versatile neutral and a wardrobe staple.

Over the past year, red has transitioned from a considered pop of color to a full-look statement. Since Matthieu Blazy’s debut, we have seen a steady rhythm of monochromatic red. Designers like Ashlyn, Tom Ford, Colleen Allen, Tove, and The Row have further reinforced its staying power through the upcoming fall season.

As an accessory enthusiast, I’m particularly focused on red footwear. I was recently struck by knee-high red Hermès boots, blooming red Dior slides, and a pair of croc red-and-black Chanel shoes that I am still hoping to find.

Below are five ways I’m excited to style red for spring.
