Picture this: It's Friday night and you're all geared up to go out, but then the siren call of your leggings makes it literally impossible to leave the house. We've all been there, and Kate Hudson is here to help. The Fabletics co-founder is about to drop a line of athleisure dresses, which are making our lazy gal dreams a reality starting April 1.

Hudson spoke to MarieClaire.com about the super chic debut, plus her new line of performance wear swimsuits that hit shelves mid-April. Get ready for your bikini top to double as a sports bra during pilates by the water. And by "pilates," we obviously mean taking naps on your beach chair.

Marie Claire: The thought of not being strapped into an uncomfortable LBD for a night out is so refreshing. How did you come up with the idea to incorporate dresses into your line?

Kate Hudson: I think it's been a natural progression. We're taking the active girl, taking her out on the town, and keeping her casual!

MC: Would you wear athleisure on a date night?

KH: Yeah, I don't see why not! Wear it wherever you want. That's the point. It's something that's become more and more accessible, even in the office. Out on the town, to dinner, whether it be on a date, or with your friends—it works with whatever you're doing.

MC: Can you do light exercise in these dresses (a pre-evening hike, perhaps)?

KH: I don't know if they're something you want to go on a hike in, but we definitely use the same performance materials. It's just more of a comfort thing. You can be active in them and have a more mobile experience. You won't have any trouble getting out of your car!

MC: Do you have to wear a regular bra with these, or are our dreams of owning a cute dress that's secretly a sports bra coming true?

KH: There are a few dresses, like our Tropez dress, that have bras built right in. But even those that don't are easy to go on and don't require that much effort. The idea of making a dress out of the same materials that would make your butt look good in leggings is to tuck everything in so it feels nice and snug. High fashion companies like Alaia and Hervé Leger also make dresses that suck you in, and that's basically what we're doing with these—at a price that's more affordable.

MC: So, I take it we won't need Spanx?

    KH: No Spanx required!

MC: Did you design your bathing suits with activity in mind? If I do yoga on the beach in a regular bikini (and that's a big if), I'm risking my breasts falling out of my top—or worse, something disastrous happening to my bottoms. How did you manage to keep designs sexy but sturdy?

KH: Our bathing suits are designed so people can be as active as they can. Most of them are very much performance focused. That's what our brand is, we want people to feel like they're protected in our clothes without compromising a little bit of sexiness and femininity.

MC: Do you think there's a way to make athleisure high fashion?

KH: There's a way to make athleisure high fashion, it would just cost more money. Our company's really about motivating people to get on board and be healthy (and fit!). So it's important for us to be able to reach a broader spectrum of people. To do high fashion, you have to go into a little bit of a higher price point. Our brand is very, very lucky because thanks to the model we use, we're able to basically have the same quality performance for half the price due to being direct to consumer. We got very lucky. We created this model, and we're able to provide people with the same quality at a different price.
