You Don't Need a Wardrobe Reset for 2026—Just Smarter Accessories

    Refinement, not reinvention.

Our out-of-office messages have officially expired and the first month of the year has settled into a familiar chorus: emails, newsletters, and push alerts all goading reinvention of yourself, your habits, your closet. If it feels overwhelming and daunting, you aren't alone.

Marketing cycles aside, our craving for renewal is a natural human impulse. For fashion lovers, this usually means taking frenzied stock of our wardrobes, or a retrospective: figuring out what worked, what felt intuitive, and where to go next. This year, however, I'm resisting the proposition of the "total overhaul."

For me, winter dressing is a reminder that freshness doesn't always necessitate replacement. It can be found in the intentional details—a statement scarf, a leather glove in an unexpected color, a vintage brooch, or a belt to add to your most reached-for outerwear. My New Year's style resolution? Refinement over reinvention.

Yes, according to the CFDA, fur is out; however, that doesn't mean you can't partake in this chic and timeless way to elevate even the most basic winter looks. I recommend opting for vintage or faux options. Whether you wear a fur stole, scarf, or cape atop a wool peacoat or leather bomber, you can rewear this accessory for years to come. Opt for a complementary neutral shade if you're someone who wears a lot of black, like me.

A Leather Glove in a Fun Color

To the color adverse, hear me out: color can be fun in doses, especially for winter accessories. I love the way a buttery cognac, burgundy, or olive green glove looks with a mostly neutral wardrobe.

    An Interesting Belt

"The coat is the outfit" is my daily winter mantra. With that said, a belt is the easiest yet most exciting way to add interest to the coat you always reach for. Again, as someone who wears mostly black, I opt for belts that add texture or hardware to an otherwise flat outerwear forward look. Try a grommet or studded belt over a fur jacket (à la Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City movie) or a feather or tassel belt over a structured car coat.

    A Brooch

I have a penchant for sourcing vintage brooches, so it was only a matter of time before I found a way to incorporate one into my weekly outfit rotation. Brooches with onyx, citrine, or rhinestones always catch my eye and look great on the lapel of a wool coat.
