We're Inspired—Crisp Suiting and Bold Beauty Is All We Can Currently Think About
The classics strike again.
At the dawn of each season, I take a look at my wardrobe with a fresh perspective. Who do I want to be this season? Me, of course, but what will actually inspire my new purchases so that I don't end up with a pile of donations the following season? I know for certain that I'm going to take bubble hems for a spin, and I may dabble in some metallics, but I'm also on the hunt for key pieces that are still classic and easy to wear.
My colleague, Anneliese Dominguez, feels the same way, but unlike me, she's unlocked her inspiration for the season. She's ripping pages right out of our Identity issue and has them pinned at the top of her spring mood board. She's leaning hard into crisp white suiting, not too boxy or too fitted, with classic strappy sandals that she can wear anywhere from the boardroom to a weekend occasion. (Strappy sandals have seriously become one of the most versatile staples in today's capsule wardrobes.) With white suiting as her go-to this season, Anneliese is also going to experiment with bolder beauty looks. Ahead, she breaks down her favorite spring look inspired by our Identity issue and fills me in on where to find each piece. (Hint: It's Nordstrom.)
Crisp White Suiting
"I studied the fashion and beauty looks in the Identity issue before creating this look for myself, and I was drawn to the suiting look because as I go back into the office more and more, I'm looking for more elevated pieces to wear on the daily," Anneliese says of the inspiration behind this look. She's also "opting for a casual material to wear on the regular."
How good is this set? Anneliese spotted this Good American blazer and trousers while browsing on Nordstrom. "It was easy to find pieces to re-create these looks," she says. "The retailer is always right on top of any spring trend and has almost every chic brand you can think of on the site. I instantly found an array of suiting looks to achieve what I was looking for, but this Good American matching set stood out from the rest. The oversize blazer and relaxed trousers felt right on trend for the season."
Bold Beauty
Similar to my style MO, I like to keep my beauty look simple and classic, and so does Anneliese. "When it comes to makeup, I usually like to keep things simple. I have a go-to look that requires minimal effort," she says. Same, but admittedly, the smoky eye looks sprinkled throughout the Identity issue made us both do a double take. "It felt sultry, sophisticated, and luxe all in one," she says. "I knew I had to re-create it!"
Although I do thorough research on the best of beauty, I'm not the type to complete a step-by-step makeup routine. Neither is Anneliese, but this season, she's experimenting with more products. I started out with a foundation base. In one of my first-ever photoshoots, a makeup artist used Armani foundation on me, and I've been hooked ever since. It gives the perfect amount of coverage and doesn't feel cakey. Next, I contoured a bit and warmed up my face with this Nars powder bronzer. I'm a simple-makeup girl, but the looks I fell in love with were glowy, so I went in with the Charlotte Tilbury wand and added highlight to all the right places. I'm not going to lie: The smoky-eye look was a little intimidating at first, but with the help of this super-smudgeable Bobbi Brown eye shadow, it was actually quite doable. I blended it with my fingers as well as a brush and then added a little Charlotte Tilbury kohl eyeliner to finish off the eyes. I then added some blush, fluffed up my eyebrows, curled my lashes, and added some YSL lipstick and Bobbi Brown lip liner to make my pout feel full but natural."
