At a time where the most desired hair 'do is not really one at all—yes, the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed hair still reigns supreme—the elaborate styles of the 1920's seem like a pipe dream for us low-maintenance ladies. But as Yeezy taught us, waves don't die...

From the slicked, Josephine-Baker-like coils at Givenchy Spring 2017 to Solange's Marcel waves in her music video for "Don't Touch My Hair," there's no denying that intricately lacquered waves are creeping back into the beauty zeitgeist. And, as holiday party season descends upon us, they are more tempting than ever to recreate.

Thankfully, in spite of our lack of Roaring-Twenties-hairdresser skills, both Gigi Hadid and Katy Perry have donned '20s-inspired hairstyles that are more modern and streamlined, and thus, easier to achieve for us mere mortals.

    The 2016 Finger Waves

    Look #1: Gigi Hadid

For Hadid's look—wet-finish bendy waves accented by a single finger wave in the front—hairstylist Jenner Yepez not only masterfully sculpted her 'do, but employed super-moisturizing products to do so.

"I used Honest Beauty Truly Restored leave in conditioner and Beyond Hydrated Moisture Milk and Condition and shine serum," Yepez explained on Instagram.

Once the hair is prepped with your choice products, create a deep side part, then use a comb to guide the larger front section of hair into an S-shape. Secure with pins and set into place with additional product. "To get the hold, I used Oribe Grandiose mousse and R Co. Vicious Hairspray," says Yepez.

    Look #2: Katy Perry

On Election Night, Perry was giving us distinct Americana vibes. Hairstylist Chris Appleton smoothed her raven-black strands back into polished pin curls, created a deep side part, then coaxed the hair into a curvaceous double wave, tucking it back behind the ear.

The takeaway from both of these styles? It really is easier than ever to take stab at it yourself. "It doesn't have to be a full head of waves —they can look more dated," says Appleton. "Just add a wave to the front of the hair. I always love to keep it super glossy for high shine."

If you don't want to bother with styling the rest of the hair, pull it back into a low knot or ponytail. Either way, you're a standout.
