I’ve gone through more sheet masks than I can count—hydrating ones, brightening ones, the kind that promise to make you have “glass-skin” in 15 minutes. Thinking back, they’re likely the first beauty product I ever used. When I was little, I’d beg my mom to buy them from the drugstore to have a pretend spa day. Now, I’ll throw one on after (or during) a flight, a long work day, or honestly just when my complexion starts looking a little dull. It’s the fastest route I know to faking a full eight hours of sleep.

And the experts agree. “Sheet masks are ideal for any condition that will benefit from an intense hit of hydration or calming, such as dehydration, dullness, post-procedure soothing, and a pre-event glow,” says board-certified dermatologist Jessie Cheung, MD. All that to say, there’s basically no wrong time to use one. And unlike other skincare steps that require consistency or commitment, sheet masks reward you almost immediately. I keep a stack in my fridge for the chill factor alone and extras in my travel duffle whenever I head out of town.

What I love most is how immediate the payoff feels. You pull it off, and boom, your skin is dewy, taut, and glowing, as if you slept in an overnight mask. But finding one that does more than momentarily drench your face in a serum? That’s the real hunt. Some masks exist just for a cool sensation and aesthetic, but others deliver a serious dose of skin-loving ingredients.

Below, I’ve rounded up the sheet masks that actually earn their ten to twenty minutes of fame.

    The Best Sheet Masks

    • Best Overall Sheet Mask: SK-II Brightening Facial Treatment Sheet Mask
    • Best Sheet Mask for Firming: NakedBeauty MD BioPeptide Firming Hydrogel Face Mask
    • Best Sheet Mask for Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Valmont Regenerating Mask Treatment
    • Best Sheet Mask for Hydration: Dr. Jart+ Cryo Rubber Face Mask With Hyaluronic Acid
    • Best Sheet Mask for Glass Skin: Biodance Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask

Brightening Facial Treatment Sheet Mask Twin Pack

    Best Overall Sheet Mask
    SK-II
    Brightening Facial Treatment Sheet Mask
    $30
    SHOP NOW

If there were a hall of fame for sheet masks, SK-II’s would have its own wing. Each one is drenched, literally, with a full bottle’s worth of the brand’s PITERA essence—a fermented ingredient derived from yeast—so you’re getting a serious dose of hydration and radiance in a single use. The serum feels rich but sinks in cleanly, leaving skin bouncy and prepped for makeup. After use, everything looks smoother and more awake, like your face just refreshed overnight, except it was only 15 minutes.

Key ingredients: PITERA™ (fermented yeast extract that refines tone and texture); Adenosine (boosts collagen); Niacinamide (evens tone); Vitamin E (protects with antioxidants); Glycerin (hydrates); Allantoin (soothes)

What I Love: Gives instant glass-skin luminosity; Serum absorbs completely without stickiness; Makes makeup glide on easier

What I Don’t: Mask can feel slightly slippery if you try to multitask while wearing it

Review for MC: "I’ve tested more sheet masks than I can count as a beauty editor, and very few actually do anything. This one does. It instantly calms my sensitive skin and leaves it with a fresh, dewy glow—perfect prep for the rest of my routine, day or night." — Samantha Holender, Senior Beauty Editor

    Best Sheet Mask for Firming
    NakedBeauty MD
    BioPeptide Firming Hydrogel Face Mask
    $128

This mask—created by a top Beverly Hills plastic surgeon—is packed with a slew of firming peptides and a lineup of antioxidants that target loss of elasticity, dullness, and fine lines in one go. The formula blends vitamin C, niacinamide, and ferulic acid to brighten and defend against oxidative stress, while caffeine provides a temporary tightening effect that leaves skin looking instantly lifted.

Key ingredients: Peptides (boost firmness and collagen support); Vitamin C (brightens and protects); Niacinamide (evens tone and strengthens barrier); Ferulic acid (antioxidant shield); Caffeine (temporarily tightens and depuffs); Centella asiatica (calms)

What I Love: Leaves skin feeling instantly firmer and more elastic; Gives an immediate tightening effect; Cooling hydrogel texture makes it ideal in the morning

What I Don’t: The shimmery finish can look slightly dewy if you don’t blot before applying skincare

Review for MC: "I’m a big fan of sheet masks, but I can’t stand when they slip, slide, and drip all down my face—I don’t have any of those issues with NakedBeauty MD’s. This rose gold-hued mask is easy to apply and stays put. What’s more, my dull, drab skin got the prettiest glow after about 20 minutes, and I swear my skin felt more firm and bouncy." — Brooke Knappenberger, Associate Commerce Editor

Regenerating Mask Treatment Regenerating Collagen Mask

Best Sheet Mask for Fine Lines and Wrinkles
    Valmont
    Regenerating Mask Treatment
    $610
    SHOP NOW

This is the sheet mask equivalent of a high-end facial—and yes, the price reflects it. Each treatment includes a bio-collagen sheet mask (made from natural collagen fibers) and a follow-up vial of collagen serum, designed to flood the skin with hydration and restore firmness at a super-deep structural level. The mask itself creates an occlusive seal, trapping the active ingredients and Swiss glacier water so they penetrate more deeply than a typical sheet mask. After 30 minutes, fine lines look softened, skin feels tighter, and there’s a bounce that lasts long past the glow. It’s not an everyday mask—it’s the one you grab before a big event.

Key ingredients: Collagen (plumps and strengthens skin barrier); Amino acids (support regeneration and elasticity); Swiss glacial spring water (hydrates and soothes)

What I Love: Delivers visible firming after a single use; Smooths fine lines and restores elasticity; Feels like a professional collagen facial at home

What I Don’t: High price point, but justified by the dual-step delivery and longer-term results

Review for MC: "You'd think it was a gimmick that a $610 face mask exists when you can run to the drugstore and pick up one for $5. I hate to tell you, there's a significant difference, and Valmont's sheet mask delivers the most beautiful glow to my skin, courtesy of high-end active skincare ingredients that achieve the results of a full-blown luxe facial." — Siena Gagliano, Beauty Editor

Leave it to Dr. Jart+ to make hydration feel high-tech. This two-step Korean treatment starts with a concentrated ampoule packed with hyaluronic acid, then follows with a cooling rubberized mask that locks everything in. As it sits, it slightly lowers the skin’s temperature—an effect à la cryotherapy—to calm redness and seal in moisture. When it comes off, skin feels bouncy, soothed, and deeply replenished, like you just dunked your face in an ice bowl.

Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid (hydrates); Niacinamide (brightens and strengthens the barrier); Aloe (hydrates and soothes); Panthenol (calms and restores softness)

What I Love: Cooling effect makes skin feel instantly refreshed; Leaves a cushiony, hydrated finish that lasts all day; Fun two-step process feels like a mini treatment

What I Don’t: Ampoule can feel a little slippery if you use too much before applying the mask

Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask for Pore Minimizing amp;amp; Firming Care

Best Sheet Mask for Glass Skin
    Biodance
    Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask
    $5
    SHOP NOW

The Biodance Bio Collagen-Real Deep Mask has become a quiet K-beauty favorite for its instant results. The mask starts as a milky white sheet, then dries clear and firm as the ingredients get to work, sealing everything in. Its formula focuses on barrier repair, powered by adenosine to calm inflammation and support collagen production, niacinamide to even tone, and vitamin E to defend against oxidative stress. The result is skin that looks replenished, smoother, and noticeably refreshed after a single use.

Key ingredients: Adenosine (boosts collagen); Niacinamide (brightens); Vitamin E (protects with antioxidants); Glycerin (hydrates); Allantoin (soothes)

What I Love: Super quick treatment for glowing skin; Instantly hydrates skin and preps it for the rest of skincare

What I Don’t: Leaves a slightly tacky feeling on the skin when removed

Review for MC: “While seemingly gimmicky, these masks have seriously changed my life—and, more importantly, my skin. When my face feels super dry or just looking dull, I always reach the BioDance collagen mask. I apply a hydrating serum first, so the mask can work to really soak it into my skin. Once applied, I leave the mask on until it goes clear. This usually takes a few hours, but I promise it’s worth the wait! After peeling the mask off, I’m left with the most plump and glowing skin that lasts all day long. Just beware, you’ll look a little crazy while wearing it, so I like to save them for a long work-from-home day or lazy night on the couch.” — Emma Aerin Becker, Freelance Beauty Writer

Dream Sleep Nighttime Slugging Face Mask

    Best Drugstore Sheet Mask
    LOOPS
Dream Sleep Nighttime Slugging Face Mask
    $7
    SHOP NOW

LOOPS took the concept of slugging and turned it into a no-mess, ten-minute mask. The hydrogel base lies comfortably on the skin, sealing in a serum infused with plant-based oils, antioxidants, and fatty acids that mimic the effects of an overnight balm—without the greasy residue. Bakuchiol smooths fine lines and boosts tone, while ceramides and niacinamide reinforce the skin barrier, delivering a soft, bouncy feel.

Key ingredients: Slugging complex (plant-based oils that lock in hydration and strengthen the barrier); Bakuchiol (antioxidant that smooths fine lines and improves tone); Ceramides (restore elasticity and boost moisture); Niacinamide (protects and brightens)

What I Love: Makes skin look plumper and more even by morning; Feels hydrating but never sticky; Delivers that “slugging” payoff without the mess or clogged pores

What I Don’t: Light natural scent might not appeal to those who prefer completely fragrance-free skincare

Customer Review: "This is the third LOOPS mask I've tried, and while each has been great, this is the first one that I immediately sent 'after' photos to my friends. My skin feels tightened, and for the moment, I feel like my face has achieved the glass skin look. I truly hope to see this as a bottled serum one day." — Ulta

This mask is basically cryotherapy in sheet form. In 20 minutes, it wakes up tired, puffy skin with a cooling texture. A patented peptide complex takes things further, helping to prevent water retention and visibly smooth under-eye puffiness.

Key ingredients: Caffeine (temporarily tightens); Tetrapeptide (reduces puffiness and supports lymphatic drainage); Peptides (hydrate, strengthen, and improve elasticity)

What I Love: Cooling hydrogel instantly reduces morning puffiness; Leaves skin taut, bright, and makeup-ready; Feels like an at-home cryo facial without the cold shock

What I Don’t: May be slightly tingly on sensitive skin during the first few minutes of wear

Key ingredients: Retinol (supports cell turnover and softens fine lines); Hyaluronic acid (hydrates and plumps); Antioxidants (protect)

How Often Should I Use a Sheet Mask?

Board-certified dermatologist Asmi Berry, DO, FAAD, previously explained to MC that these masks are meant to enhance your routine, not replace it. They’re best used as a complement to your regular skincare, rather than a cure-all, she says. When chosen wisely, though, they can make a real, visible difference in your complexion’s glow.

Dr. Cheung agrees, adding that frequency depends on your skin’s needs. “Most skin can handle a sheet mask two to three times a week,” she says. “Dry, stressed, or travel-worn skin can benefit from even more frequent use.” Still, she cautions against overdoing it—especially with masks that contain active ingredients like acids or retinoids. Those, she explains, are “better left in leave-on serums than in masks.” So think of sheet masks as a boost: a quick hit of hydration or radiance layered on top of an already solid routine.

What to Look for in a Sheet Mask

    • Ingredients

When it comes to sheet masks, what’s inside the pouch matters just as much as how it feels on your face. “In a sheet mask, it’s all about the humectants and barrier-supporting ingredients,” says Dr. Cheung. She suggests scanning for proven actives that work fast: hyaluronic acid, glycerin, vitamin B5, niacinamide, peptides, growth factors, polydeoxyribonucleotides, exosomes, and antioxidants like vitamin C or green tea. “These are ingredients that hydrate, brighten, and calm on contact, while also supporting collagen production,” she explains.

As for the extras—think oxygen bubbles, magnets, or anything that sounds gimmicky—Dr. Cheung calls them more for the self-care experience than for results. And those buzzword additives like collagen or pearl powder? “They don’t actually get absorbed into the skin,” she says.

    • Skin Type or Concern

Not every mask is for every face. If you’re sensitive or acne-prone, Dr. Cheung advises skipping heavy fragrances, essential oils, or alcohol-based essences that can irritate. Instead, look for “fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, minimalist formulas with ceramides, centella, beta-glucan, or niacinamide for calming without clogging.”

    • Materials

The fabric itself makes a surprising difference. “The material controls how tightly the mask seals the skin and how evenly it delivers the serum,” explains Dr. Cheung. Cotton or fiber masks feel breathable and light but can dry out quickly, shortening their benefits. Hydrogel versions offer a cooling, soothing feel and hold plenty of serum for an instant-glow payoff. But if you want next-level results, Dr. Cheung recommends bio-cellulose: “It grips like a second skin and is the most effective at driving hydration deep and preventing evaporation.”
