Has 'Nobody Wants This' been renewed for Season 2?

Yes! Netflix announced the good news that Nobody Wants This is returning for season 2 on October 10, 2024, just two weeks after the romance's series premiere. The pickup isn't a huge surprise, as the rom-com was Netflix's no. 1 TV show for its first two full weeks on the platform. Season 1 racked up "26.2M views in its first 11 days of release, as well as seizing the zeitgeist and triggering a conversation," according to Deadline.

The renewal also comes with a shake-up behind the camera: Girls alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan have joined the series as executive producers and showrunners for season 2.

“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story,” creator Erin Foster said of the renewal, “and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls… Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!”

When will 'Nobody Wants This' season 2 be released?

Get ready to let love into your heart this fall! Nobody Wants This season 2 will officially premiere on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The show's executive producers and the lead cast announced the news during an Emmys event for season 1 on June 1.

While we wait for episodes to arrive this fall, Netflix has also dropped first-look photos from the new season.

The hit series is returning much earlier than the typical Netflix hit. According to Deadline, the writers's room was "open for a couple weeks" by the time Netflix officially announced the series's renewal for season 2. Then, in early March, Deadline reported that filming for season 2 had begun, with the show "set to premiere on Netflix later this year."

Season 1 had a quick turnaround as well: According to What's On Netflix, the first batch of episodes was filmed between January and April 2024 before debuting in September 2024. We'll take it!

Who in the 'Nobody Wants This' cast is returning for season 2?

In addition to stars Kristen Bell (Joanne) and Adam Brody (Noah), all of Nobody Wants This's supporting cast members are set to return for season 2, including Justine Lupe (Morgan), Timothy Simons (Sasha), Jackie Tohn (Esther), Sherry Cola (Ashley), Tovah Feldshuh (Bina), Paul Ben-Victor (Ilan), Stephanie Faracy (Lynn), and Michael Hitchcock (Henry). Hopefully, D'Arcy Carden will return as Joanne's friend Ryann, to continue her and Bell's mini-The Good Place reunion.

Which new cast members are joining 'Nobody Wants This' season 2?

Nobody Wants This makes the case that everybody wants in on this ensemble cast, with the number of exciting names joining season 2.

Most importantly, Gossip Girl fans, we're getting a reunion! Netflix announced that Leighton Meester, a.k.a. Blair Waldorf herself and Brody's wife, is joining Nobody Wants This season 2, where she'll go toe to toe with Kristen Bell again. (Or rather, for the first time, since Bell only voiced the titular blog on the legendary hit '00s series.) According to Netflix's Tudum, the Gossip Girl alum "will guest-star as Abby, Joanne’s nemesis from middle school who is now an Instagram mommy influencer."

During the 2025 Emmys red carpet, Brody shared his experience watching his wife film her upcoming scenes. "The truth of the matter is, most of her scenes are with Justine [Lupe] and Kristen [Bell]," he told PEOPLE. "So I got to kind of be a bystander and watch, which is even sometimes even more fun because I get to admire."

In a June 2025 interview with Deadline, creator Erin Foster explained how Meester came into the fold. She said that the idea for Abby came first, and then new showrunner Jenni Konner suggested the 2000s icon. "We were all like, 'Wait a second, that’s a really good idea.' Then we asked Adam first how he felt, and he was like, 'I love it. " If it’s funny, see if she responds to it,'" Foster shared.

She also teased that Meester will share the screen with her real-life beau in a few scenes. "I quickly went into the scenes and tried to beef up the character as much as I could and give her as much fun [as possible]. And there’s an extra scene now," she said. "They didn’t have any scenes alone with each other originally. And so then I went in and I was like, Okay, I’m going to give them a scene alone and kind of throw in a couple moments that people would grab onto and have fun with.”

Meester isn't the only new name in the ensemble. Netflix also revealed Bottoms standout Miles Fowler was cast as "Lenny, Noah’s Matzah Ballers teammate who gets set up with [Justine Lupe's] Morgan."

In early March, Deadline reported a couple of fan-favorite actors from hit HBO shows had been cast, including Succession alum Arian Moayed (who played Stewy on the Emmy-winning drama) and Alex Karpovsky, best known for playing the beloved Ray on Girls.

It sounds like Morgan may have her heart pulled in a few directions because not only is she being set up with Fowler's character, but Moayed's role will also be a part of her dating life. Deadline reports he has a "major arc" as Dr. Andy, a charming, highly regarded (particularly by himself) psychotherapist who might be the perfect match" for her.

Karpovsky, meanwhile, is portraying "Big Noah, an overly confident rabbi at Noah’s temple."

And in a final treat, Deadline reported a few weeks before the premiere date that Seth Rogen and Kate Berlant will guest star. Though Netflix teased the other new cast members's roles, theirs are being kept under wraps. Considering the two comedic icons are Jewish and frequently write/star in roles about their identity, we can only hope they play members of Noah's synagogue congregation...potentially a very funny married couple. Regardless, we can assume any time The Studio actor/showrunner and standup star are on screen, we'll be laughing.

What will 'Nobody Wants This' season 2 be about?

Season 1 of Nobody Wants This ends with Joanne and Noah's future together in question. (Perfect for a season 2, less so for our hearts.) Everything seemed headed for a happy ending when Joanne crashed Miriam's Big Apple bat mitzvah and told Noah she had decided to convert to Judaism. (Very Charlotte York from Sex and the City of her!) However, as the night went on, Joanne began to realize that she wasn't ready to make the extremely personal transition and take on the pressure of representing the faith as a rabbi's wife. By the end of the night, Noah was on cloud nine after learning he was set to become the next head rabbi, but Joanne admitted to him that she was not ready to convert and didn't know if she would ever be.

Though Noah still wanted to work things out, Joanne ended the relationship, telling a devastated Noah, "You can’t have both, and I would never make you choose." They appeared to both accept the heartbreaking reality as Joanne boarded the shuttle to leave the party. However, when she disembarked at the parking lot, Noah was already standing by her car waiting for her. “Well, you were right. I can’t have both,” he told her, before pulling her into a passionate kiss. And with that, Nobody Wants This season 1 ends.

While speaking with Deadline in early summer 2025, Foster confirmed season 2 will begin around a week or two after the events of the finale and follow the couple as they fight to make their relationship work. "I would say that season 1 was 'will they, won’t they?' And season 2 was “how will they?" she described.

The series creator teased that their next chapter will follow how they try to merge each other's lives, from families to friendships to weekends. She explained that, like season 1, it's a blend of fiction and being based on her own love story, and added, "I used to always think that the goal was to go to a dinner with a couple where you both equally want to be there, right? It’s not like, I’m doing this for you with your friends and you’re doing me with my friends, but you really have a shared world. And that’s not something I ever had until I was with the person I’m married to. And so, a lot of that stuff I put into season 2."

More specifically, Noah's family will likely not be happy with him choosing Joanne over the head rabbi gig, and the sacrifice may weigh on Noah once the butterflies from that last kiss wear off. Meanwhile, Joanne still has a lot to learn about Judaism, and we'll have to see whether she ever decides to convert solely for herself and not just for Noah. Here's hoping that everything works out for these lovebirds in the end (after a couple more seasons, of course).

Be still, our fragile hearts: A trailer for Nobody Wants This season 2 dropped about a month before the premiere date. The clip teases that Noah and Joanne are on cloud nine—her sister even says she's in a "psychotically annoying relationship"—with the two of them trying to figure out how to merge their lives and friendships to "become a we." Still, there are issues they need to work through: It appears tension remains between Joanne and Noah's mom, and conversion seems to be a big elephant in the room. "Are we doomed?" Noah asks at one point, to which Joanne interrupts, "You’re not allowed to…no, I’m the cynical one." We can't wait to see them work through everything!

Plus, perhaps most importantly, the trailer shows a first look at guest stars Leighton Meester and Seth Rogen. It's hard to glean much, but it seems a party thrown by Meester and seemingly her rabbi husband will cause Joanne much ire. We're counting down the days until we can binge-watch.

What has the cast said about 'Nobody Wants This' season 2 so far?

In January, the Nobody Wants This cast reunited for the 2025 Golden Globes, where the series was up for Best Musical or Comedy TV Series. While walking the red carpet, Justine Lupe teased what's in store for season 2, promising that the writers' room is thinking of the fans while working on the new episodes.

"All I know is that they want to give the people what they want," the actress exclusively told Marie Claire. "They keep saying that over and over again."

Meanwhile, the hot rabbi himself has shared his thoughts about what that finale kiss means for Joanne and Noah. Speaking with Tudum, Adam Brody said that he saw the kiss as Noah promising Joanne, "I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I’m saying that you are my priority."

However, the O.C. alum added, "In the light of day, will he still feel that way? I don’t know. It’s an open question."

"I think that’s what the show can explore,” he continued. “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it—you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”
