It Girls Are Wearing Their Sleepwear Outside—How to Make It Look Chic, Not Like You Just Rolled Out of Bed

I’m not sure whether it’s always been a West Coast thing or a result of the constant art-deco inspiration I've found since I moved to Los Angeles earlier this year, but I have been inclined to wear lounge-like silks, kimono-like layers, and dreamy robes. Let's call it chic sleepwear—the kind that you can wear easily into the day as you can into the night (and even to bed).

I think we are craving the ultra-luxurious and the extra comfortable right now. Long gone are the days when you have to fuss with clothing. Here, in my newly curated, pajama-like wardrobe, I can be as comfortable and stylish as I'd like to be—and you can easily follow my lead.

Pick a Vintage Robe for Evening

I think this comes from my Armani-obsessed brain, but my obsession with evening jackets is not dying down anytime soon. I believe that is where I drew my inspiration to take it one step further and wear a velvet robe for a fancy night out. I paired it with sheer black tights, pointy black heels, and an incredible pair of earrings to emphasize that this is indeed a nighttime-ready look. It is that unexpected element that can be a conversation piece, if you’d like it to be.

Style a Sleep Shirt as a Top

This silk pajama top is a part of a sleepwear duo, but I think it looks so cool paired by itself for a day look. I love the silk, stripes, and the look of wearing crisp white trousers and a belt. It looks effortless, and no one would know you might have slept in the same shirt the night before.

Tassels are another Art Deco influence craze that has taken over my heart. Paired with a kimono-like robe or silk evening jacket, it gives your outfit a boudoir feel. Emphasize with a '20s-inspired feathered heel, and you've got yourself a real fashion moment. Bonus: these are all pieces that can be worn separately for different occasions, too.
