Jewelry trends tend to be less fickle than fashion trends, but there are still peaks and valleys within the category, like the almost seemingly abrupt shift from a minimalist, more-is-less mindset to a full-on maximalist point-of-view. While not always predictable, it's apparent the fall 2024 jewelry trends don't exist in a vacuum but instead blend runway inspiration at the top of the fashion food chain with real world and TikTok-inspired demand. As fashion draws from the past, nostalgia makes a strong comeback with flashy '80s-style jewelry, while bangles make a bold statement but with modern-day wearability. Chunky chains, sculptural earrings, and craft-inspired pieces are also reimagined for today's fashion-fueled crowd.

While bright and bold certainly take center stage, subtler forms of self-expression are also getting air time with simple—ultra-accessible—mixed metals and the classic heirloom investment pieces, like pearls. As Marie Claire's other full fall fashion trends coverage notes, the season's collections are simply a jumping-off point to integrate into your style. It's not about what you're wearing, but how you wear it. Here's where to start.

    Around the Collar

Fall 2024's iteration of the chunky chain emphasizes its feminine charm. At Loro Piana and Tom Ford, a connected chain collar stands out amongst simple tops and sweaters, making them the focal point. At Balmain and Chloé, sculptural collars are anything but demure.

Despite what you may have heard, gold and silver jewelry have no hard and fast pairing rules. Designers, from Miu Miu to Alaïa, are embracing mixed metal finishes—combining silver, gold, and even rose gold in a single piece or layered together for a cool, eclectic look.

Certainly, there are modernized versions of pearls—often oversized or irregularly shaped. However, this season, pearls are returning to their traditional heirloom form, with strings of pearls at Miu Miu and pearl stud earrings at Chanel. But pearls—even the dainty variety—can still straddle the line between elegant and edgy. That part is up to you.

While the 1980s is nearly four decades in the rearview mirror, the '80s accessories playbook that stood for decadence is having a significant revival, even amongst celebs like Adele. At Chanel, gold layered necklaces and coin earrings stood front-and-center, stacks and stacks of bangles adorned the arms of models at Schiaparelli, and oversized gold clip-on style disc earrings were the accessory of choice at Saint Laurent.

As the maximalist jewelry trend continues to have legs, more bangle bracelets are unearthed and stacked to the high heavens, from chunky sculptural styles at Alaïa and Gabriela Hearst to lucite versions at Saint Laurent and Tory Burch. Mix and match them, or take the purist approach.

While maximalism is prevalent this season, quiet luxury hasn't been completely forgotten. Case in point: pendant necklaces that whisper in all of the right ways. At Gabriela Hearst, lavalier styles were layered with the aforementioned choker collars, Bottega Veneta took a sculptural approach with oversized baubles, and Dior showcased delicate, barely-there gold droplets.
