Miranda Kerr Designed a Denim Line with Mother

Early arrivals are familiar for Miranda Kerr. After a childhood spent kicking around Australia's rural outback, she broke into the modeling industry at just 13, walking the runways for brands like Balenciaga, Prada, and Victoria's Secret before earning a spot as the world's 10th highest paid model last year. But at the apex of her career, she's still pondering beginnings: "I was born 6 weeks premature," says the Sydney native, now 33. "So I'm very passionate about the health and welfare of women and babies...and being a preemie gives me a special connection with the Royal Hospital for Women Foundation." The only dedicated women's hospital in Kerr's home province of New South Wales, the institution has spent the last 150 years driving innovations in neonatal care (they performed the world's first in utero operation) and women's health (latest milestone: a fertility clinic accessible to all women regardless of their socioeconomic background).

Since 2015 Kerr has been championing the organization as its ambassador, but now she's going a step further. Teaming up with aptly named label Mother, Kerr has designed a capsule collection of 12 denim pieces whose proceeds will go to support the hospital's mission. "I worked hand-in-hand with designers Tim [Kaeding] and Lela [Becker] on every detail," says Kerr. "I appreciate their design aesthetic—'don't take yourself too seriously!'"

The admiration is mutual. "The best part is how good she made everything look when she tried the pieces on," says Kaeding. The Miranda + Mother collection includes the brand's signature blues (with special messages inscribed inside waistbands) and more whimsical pieces like a butterfly-embroidered button-up and white tees bearing mantras like Attitude of Gratitude. "The messages, the sayings, they are all Miranda," says Kaeding. Sounds like a true labor of love.
