As a minimalist whose wardrobe is rooted in simplicity, I was delighted to discover that this season’s top denim trends embrace a “back to basics” philosophy. On the Spring 2026 runways, labels like Khaite and Dior showcased slim, '90s-inspired cigarette jeans with a classic feel. Meanwhile, Chloé and Valentino championed relaxed denim that puddled at the hem, like a pair of tailored trousers. These brands, along with many others, followed the same directive: ditch unconventional styles in favor of familiarity.

Given that spring’s top denim trends are so timeless, I’ve found that they’re quite easy to wear. While I’ve certainly pulled outfit inspiration from my own sartorial playbook, I’ve also gathered plenty of ideas from the street style scene. During a recent fashion week circuit in Copenhagen, one guest paired Bermuda shorts with a matching jean jacket as her twist on the Canadian tuxedo. Elsewhere in Paris, a showgoer anchored versatile wide-leg jeans with spring staples: a sweeping trench coat, a ribbed tank top, and a set of dainty ballet flats.

Inspired by these formulas, I’ve put together a list of straightforward street style outfits that will help you to master spring’s top denim trends with ease. Ahead, you’ll find a breakdown of each trend, along with a range of affordable and designer pieces for each ensemble. Whether you’re searching for a sophisticated nine-to-five uniform or a laid-back look for errand runs, you’ll find everything you could possibly need below.

Here’s how to make a Canadian tuxedo look more chic, and less kitchy.

It might be 40 degrees right now in New York, but as soon as temperatures rise above 70, prepare to see me in Bermuda shorts all season long. There are so many ways to wear this thigh-skimming style, but I plan to take notes from the street styler above, who teamed hers with a matching jean jacket. Anchored in strappy sandals and a sophisticated shoulder bag, this double-denim look has spring written all over it.

It girls can’t get enough of the retro-inspired boho trend.

If you want your denim collection to feel more elevated, opt for trouser-like jeans. By this, I mean choose a pair of jeans that feature typical elements of tailored slacks, like a wide-leg silhouette, top-stitching, or front pleats. To soften up the look, play into fashion’s boho trend with a frilly top, a raffia bag, and leather slide sandals.

While the fashion crowd is certainly loving form-fitting silhouettes (stovepipe and cigarette jeans are everywhere), wide-leg alternatives are still ranking high. This season, assemble the billowing denim trend alongside a floor-grazing trench, a lightweight tank, and ballet slippers.

Say hello to the most viral denim style of 2026: cigarette jeans.

It’s official—cigarette jeans are back for another spin around the fashion trend cycle. Defined by a cylindrical construction and a slightly tapered hem, this style offers a slim fit that feels undeniably polished. Wear these pants with a sharp blazer, a crisp button-down, and loafers to create a cool-girl corporate outfit for casual days in the office.

Growing tired of deep indigo and cool blue? Swap your classic jeans for an earth-toned option. Warm shades of beige and brown dominated the runways of Loewe and Calvin Klein, proving that neutral denim belongs in every spring capsule wardrobe. Sportif separates, like a rugby shirt and a collared bomber jacket, will pull the look together nicely.

Follow Isabel Marant and Alexander McQueen by going full-on indie sleaze with distressed denim. Frayed at the hem and around the waistline, this style gives off an edgy vibe that practically screams punk rock. To balance out your look, opt for a buttoned blouse, heeled sandals, and a refined handbag.
