I’m an Astrology Enthusiast—Here’s How to Dress for Your Zodiac Sign This Summer

Take it from someone who has been studying Linda Goodman since high school.

I’m a sucker for astrology. I can’t help it. My mom had a copy of Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs when I was in high school and I devoured it. I shared it with all my friends. I taught my daughter, who has now surpassed me in astrology wisdom. I will always want to know what a sign does, likes, wants, even if it’s just for fun. I’ve guessed way too many people’s signs to think it isn’t real at this point (and I've convinced others along the way).

The problem with astrology fashion guides is they tend to reduce everyone to a caricature. Aries are dressed like they’re heading into battle. Tauruses are buried beneath cashmere and dripping in other earthly things. Geminis are wearing seventeen trends at once (mainly because they can’t decide, I presume). It’s so lazy. The truth is every sign has a distinct relationship with clothing, and that’s where things get interesting.

Ahead, I’m going to be as accurate as possible while providing an astrological guide to personal style. And no, I don’t think Leos should all dress in orange just because their ruling planet is the sun!

    Aries

Aries are not trying to look “cool.” Aries are trying to move. They need clothes that can keep up with their impatience, which means no fussy closures, no precious fabrics, no shoes that require a strategy. The best Aries wardrobe has a little bit of aggression to it: sharp shoulders, strong denim, a boot with a stomp, a leather jacket that gets better with age. They can wear red, yes, but not in the obvious cartoon way. More like a red sock with loafers, a scarlet manicure, a racing stripe, or a vintage varsity jacket. Also, they can throw a blazer over a tank and look more dressed than anyone trying harder.

Aries outfits look best when they’re slightly athletic, slightly reckless, and not overly considered.

    Taurus

Tauruses are sensual, not flashy. Their entire wardrobe is built around how something feels. They want weight and texture. Tauruses will run their hands over fabric before they even look at the price tag, and unfortunately for them, they usually have expensive taste.

They are not impressed by novelty; they are impressed by the perfect cream sweater, the suede tote that ages well, and the trouser that skims instead of clings. Tauruses embrace earth tones better than anyone. They gravitate toward shades of mushroom, tobacco, espresso, ivory, moss, oat, and deep chocolate.

Their danger is becoming too comfortable, so they need elegant disruption: a pointed shoe, a fitted knit, a gold cuff, a large gold ring, or a low neckline under a cardigan.

    Gemini

Geminis cannot be assigned one aesthetic because that would be cruel. They dress according to the version of themselves that woke up that morning. On Monday, they could be in vintage jeans and a striped tee. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, they could opt for a sheer skirt, ballet flats, and tiny sunglasses. Their closet is less of a cohesive wardrobe and more of a series of characters.

The key to Gemini style is wit. Something has to wink: an unexpected color combination, a graphic tee under a serious coat, socks that make no sense until they do, or a bag that starts conversations. They are excellent at mixing high and low because they don't revere fashion too much. They play with it.

    Cancer

A Cancer dresses from memory and emotions. Their clothes are often attached to people and places—whether it be the nightgown that reminds them of their grandmother or the old fisherman sweater stolen from someone they loved. They are sentimental dressers, but not weak ones.

A good Cancer wardrobe has softness with structure: cardigans, cotton poplin, antique jewelry, faded denim, quilted jackets, ballet flats—pieces that feel inherited even when they were bought last week.

They love white, cream, pale blue, faded red, navy, and silver—basically any shade that resembles moonlight or old photographs. They should avoid looking too sweet by adding something grounding: a masculine coat, a chunky loafer, an oversized watch, or a sharp trouser.

    Leo

Larissa Mills wears a silver lamamp;eacute; dress, in true Leo fashion

Leos are always misunderstood in fashion astrology. I should know, being a Leo myself. Everyone wants to put us in sequins, leopard, orange, and gold, as if every Leo is dressing for a Vegas residency.

Real Leo style is about presence. They need clothes that announce quality before they announce trends. They love a dramatic coat, a perfect pair of sunglasses, and a shoe that enters the room slightly before they do.

Leos can do glamour, but the sophisticated Leo knows restraint makes the drama better. If you’re a Leo, I’d recommend focusing on a single focal point: a black dress with a plunging back, wide-leg trousers with a silk blouse, or a vintage Chanel chain belt over a white shirt.

    Virgo

A Virgo is quite the perfectionist. Her style is edited within an inch of its life, but she’ll never admit it. Virgos are allergic to looking messy, but often wind up looking that way due to the time taken up by overthinking. They prefer refined and simple over, well, too much. Their clothes have to function beautifully: the trouser length is correct, the white shirt is crisp, the sweater is thin enough to layer but warm enough to matter.

Virgos notice seams, buttons, hems, fabric composition, and whether pocket placement is offensive. Even the smallest details in the wrong place can feel disorienting. Their palette tends toward navy, white, black, charcoal, olive, and camel—not because they lack imagination, but because they dislike chaos.

The trick for a Virgo is allowing one imperfection: an undone cuff, a worn-in belt, an unexpected shoe, a shoulder-bearing sweater, or a vintage scarf.

    Libra

Larissa Mills talks to a friend while wearing a white suit with feather cuffs

Libras are born understanding proportion and beauty. They make getting dressed easy because aesthetics come naturally. They understand silhouettes. A cropped jacket with a full skirt. A slim sweater with a wide trouser. A delicate shoe with an oversized coat.

Libra style is often romantic, but not necessarily girly. They love symmetry, polish, softness, and a little seduction. They are ruled by Venus, but their best looks are not overtly pretty; they need tension. A lace blouse with jeans. A satin skirt with a crewneck cashmere sweater. A ballerina flat with a masculine blazer.

They can wear pastels, but they often look better in expensive neutrals: dove grey, blush, ivory, black, chocolate, or pale yellow.

    Scorpio

Scorpios do not dress to be understood. In fact, they prefer not to be. Their style is controlled, magnetic, and usually a little intimidating, even when they’re wearing jeans. They are the masters of restraint with tension—a high neck and a bare back; dark denim and a sharp boot; a black coat with nothing particularly trendy about it except the person wearing it looks dangerous.

Scorpios are drawn toward shades of black, burgundy, espresso, ink, oxblood, charcoal, and deep plum. They are not maximalists unless there is a very specific reason. They should avoid anything too cute, too pastel, or too fun because it dilutes the mystery.

Their best accessory is a stare, but jewelry helps.

    Sagittarius

Larissa Mills wears a leopard print bodysuit and white pants

Sagittariuses dress for movement, distance, and escape. They cannot look trapped in their clothes. Anything too tight, too formal, too stiff, or too precious makes them want to leave the party immediately. Their wardrobe should feel collected, not curated: a suede jacket from one trip, a belt from another, boots that have actually walked somewhere, scarves, denim, linen, slouchy knits, printed dresses, and big bags.

A Sagittarius can handle patterns because they have the personality to back it up, but it should feel worldly rather than chaotic. They are at their best when they look like they might be catching a train, missing a train, or deciding not to take the train at all.

    Capricorn

A Capricorn is the sign most likely to understand cost per wear without needing anyone to explain it. Their style is disciplined, ambitious, and quietly expensive, even when it isn’t actually expensive. They like clothes that signal competence: strong coats, excellent trousers, cashmere, loafers, a proper bag, a watch, and a blazer that means business but doesn’t scream “office.”

Capricorns don’t want novelty, they want authority. Their main colors are black, camel, charcoal, navy, ivory, brown and occasionally a deep forest green if they’re feeling wild. The risk is becoming too severe, so they need warmth: suede textures, gold jewelry, a soft scarf, a silk blouse, and a great vintage bag.

    Aquarius

Aquariuses are impossible to pin down, which is exactly how they like it. They are not dressing for approval, they are dressing from some internal frequency the rest of us may or may not receive. Their style can be futuristic, vintage, intellectual, eccentric, minimal, or bizarresometimes all in one outfit.

The important thing is that it must not feel obvious. Aquariuses love an unusual proportion, an odd shoe, a strange color, a vintage piece nobody else would have bought, a coat that looks architectural, or a bag that looks slightly impractical. They are the first to wear something everyone hates, and the last to care.

    Pisces

Larissa Mills takes a page from the Piscean style playbook in off-white satin

Pisces dress emotionally, atmospherically, and almost cinematically. They are drawn to styles that move with ease: silk, chiffon, gauze, soft knits, and shimmery sequins. They’re also infatuated with poetic hues like seafoam, lavender, pearl, mist, faded blue, cream, silver, and shell pink.

However, Pisces need grounding, or they can float away into too much softness. If you’re a Pisces, I’d suggest enhancing your outfit with a leather sandal, a masculine coat, a fisherman sweater, a sturdy bag, or a vintage belt.

Style is personality made visible, and astrology gives us a wildly entertaining vocabulary for all those tiny instincts we already have. It explains why one person needs a sharp blazer to feel safe, while another prefers a sweater that feels like a hug. It’s why Geminis can’t stop buying novelty socks, or why Scorpios might feel out of place in pastels.

Ultimately, astrology shouldn’t dictate what we wear, but it offers information that is both useful and fun—which is exactly what fashion should be!
