Just a few weeks ago, the 2020 election dominated the news cycle. Our biggest concern was who would take the lead in the Democratic primary elections, and whether or not we'd have to watch yet another seemingly ineffective debate.

Then the novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, made its vicious appearance.

Everything seems small when you're dealing with a global pandemic and attempting to comprehend the number of people suffering both directly and indirectly, the healthcare workers risking their lives, the millions of people who are now unemployed. Voting, in particular, seems like a terrifying task in the social distanced world we're currently living in, knowing how many people crowd together at the polls in a race to cast their ballot. States across the country have already postponed their primaries until the summer.

But in the midst of this silent war we are battling, we cannot forget the power we have to make a difference. We are witnessing firsthand the significance of electing a leader that will help us navigate one of the darkest eras our country has seen. It's why we must remain focused on performing our civic duty by voting in the 2020 primaries and, before we know it, the general election on November 3, 2020.

That's why Marie Claire partnered with DoSomething.org to make sure all of our readers are registered to vote. We created an easy link for you to get signed up and ready to go to the polls—no matter what your political beliefs are—while we continue to cover the election in ways that are most relevant to you. It's as simple as sharing this page (or the one you're reading!) with a friend, family member, partner, or colleague. They can also text VOTE to 38383.

We know there's a lot going on right now. If the mere thought of voting in-person for your state's primaries or the general election makes you nervous, absentee voting, a.k.a. mail-in voting, is an option. (You'll need to check your state's exact rules.) In fact, it will likely become our new normal this year. It may not seem like it in this moment, but there's hope for a better future—and it begins with your vote.
