Every August, I tune into the US Open like Zendaya in Challengers (minus the love triangle and court-side seats). I rarely pick up a racket myself, but I do know my way around the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center—specifically the VIP sections, where I “Love” to spot the tournament's best celebrity outfits.

Famous attendees usually sit in private suites, showcasing the top half of their latest US Open outfits away from the crowds. Last summer, Love Story’s Sarah Pidgeon made her US Open debut, wearing Fall 2025’s dark denim trend (it’s back for round two this year) and a striped button-down.

There was also an abundance of Wimbledon-inspired attire. See Lori Harvey’s beige shirtdress by Burberry, which brought the London label to another star-studded sideline. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes’s leather jacket and black ballet flats added some New York City edge to an otherwise Wimbledon-worthy little white dress from Silk Laundry.

Even though the 146th edition of the 2026 US Open just kicked off on August 30, plenty of celebrity attendees, from Tate McRae to Brandy, posed for the step-and-repeat. Elsewhere, we are catching A-listers inside the IHG Hotels, Dobel Tequila, Emirates, and more sponsor boxes.

With Wimbledon and the French Open behind them, VIPs have perfected the art of tennis-core dressing. (No practice courts needed.) From now until September 13, I'll be watching the stands, searching for the year's best takes on tennis-core. In the meantime, Marie Claire editors round up their favorite celebrity outfits from US Opens past.

"Issa Rae's 2025 US Open outfit is a game-winning look. She embraced classic prep staples, wearing a green polo shirt, a cable knit sweater tied around her shoulders, and a white mini skirt—all courtesy of Ralph Lauren. What I love most about this tennis-inspired ensemble is the way she popped the collars of her top, serving an effortlessly cool appeal."—Lauren Tappan, fashion editor

"Earlier this summer, when I finally wore Bermuda shorts instead of Daisy dukes, I did it for Kerry Washington. Yes, the Scandal star was a few steps ahead of Bermuda newbies like Zendaya, Salma Hayek, Margot Robbie, and more.

My favorite part about her US Open 'fit? Her chestnut Ralph Lauren accessories—specifically the way the belt stood out against her Bermudas. It was the perfect summer-to-fall shade, which makes white trousers work long after the US Open."—Meguire Hennes, fashion staff writer

    Gigi Hadid, 2018

Gigi Hadid attended the 2018 US Open in an oversize button down

Gigi Hadid looked effortlessly chic before the 2018 US Open.

"It was eight years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday: the Hadid sisters gloriously flouting the post-Labor Day style 'rule' at the U.S. Open. While Bella looked great, it's Gigi's look that stands out for me. That Vivienne Westwood shirt, casually tossed over one shoulder! The white biker shorts to match her sister's dress! The nameplate necklace ("Zayn," because this was eight years ago) and little Prada bag! There's an effortlessness to this look I can't get enough of."—Jenny Hollander, digital director

"This US Open look rewrites the tennis-prep playbook—trading crisp polos for a glossy varsity jacket and some denim cutoffs. The loafers with scrunched socks are the perfect early-fall curveball: sporty and a little irreverent."—Sara Holzman, style director

    Zendaya, 2022

Zendaya was spotted at the US Open in Cartier jewelry

Zendaya was impossible to miss with her Cartier watch on full display.

"Before there was Tashi Duncan in Loewe, there was Zendaya in Cartier for the 2022 US Open. Luca Guadagnino had to have seen the shots of Z in her aviator reading glasses and Cartier Panthére watch and been inspired for Challengers.

Zendaya's courtside outfit is luxurious because it's so understated: She doesn't have to play the over-the-top, on-theme US Open styling game to win best-dressed all the same."—Halie LeSavage, senior fashion news editor

    Emily Ratajkowski, 2023

Emily Ratajkowski attended the 2023 US Open in head-to-toe designer

EmRata turned the US Open into a fully-fledged fashion show.

"Some celebrities style the same shades and silhouettes at Wimbledon and the US Open—Emily Ratajkowski isn't one of them. Three years ago, EmRata ditched traditional US Open knitwear for a strapless sweater dress—its heather gray sleeves tied atop her bust, not her shoulders.

For her fall-ready finishing touches, the My Body author left court-certified sneakers at home, zipping up chocolate brown boots instead. With a dress that autumnal, I would've done the same thing."—Meguire Hennes

    Bella Hadid, 2022

Bella Hadid attended the 2022 US Open in a denim corset

Bella was all smiles in a Y2K-coded corset.

"I love Bella’s off-duty model looks, but seeing her in denim is always the icing on the cake because it's so relatable. I think this look was so flattering as it hugs her figure, but still gives that 'I’m here to serve' vibe!"—Ashlyn Delaney, associate social media editor

    Kendall Jenner, 2022

Kendall Jenner attended the US Open in 2022 in the butter yellow trend

Leave it to Kendall Jenner to start the heeled flip-flops trend four years early.

"As Marie Claire's resident celebrity style spotter, I've been waxing poetic about the heeled flip-flops trend since summer 2025. But before Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner made thong sandals from The Row and Manolo Blahnik their signature shoes, Kendall Jenner sported an almost identical pair at the 2022 US Open.

In true supermodel style, she wasn't just ahead of the flip-flops curve: Jenner endorsed the butter yellow color trend, too, in the Bottega Veneta midi dress of my dreams. All this to say? If and when I make my US Open debut, Jenner's yellow-and-navy-blue will be my blueprint."—Meguire Hennes

    Taylor Swift, 2024

Taylor Swift at the 2024 US Open in a gingham Reformation dress

Taylor Swift waved to fans in her Reformation mini post-Open.

"I said it when I covered the look two years ago, and I'll say it again: Taylor Swift's "Miss Americana" Reformation mini dress was the best surprise the 2024 US Open had to offer to me, personally. Covering Swift's outfits for Marie Claire is its own spectator sport, but this sighting was refreshingly simple and Easter egg-free.

There's something so classic about the way she styled her dress with black sunglasses and a bright red lip—and it's sweet that Travis Kelce got in on the couples' coordination with his red-and-white Gucci outfit. I suspect summer 2025's gingham obsession started with this outfit in the center of the industry's mood board. While I missed out on shopping Swift's exact dress last time, I'm crossing my fingers she'll come back in another under-$300 find."—Halie LeSavage

    Serena Williams, 2024

Serena Williams attended the US Open in 2024

The GOAT watched the US Open from the stands in an early-aughts-inspired Canadian tux.

"Seeing Serena Williams at the 2024 US Open made my tennis-loving heart melt. It was the GOAT's first time watching from the stands, as opposed to playing in 21 tournaments.

She referenced herself with a pleated denim mini skirt she wore at the 2004 US Open. A cropped short-sleeve jacket completed Williams's Canadian tuxedo. Everything from her chunky sneakers to double-denim will inspire my tennis attire when I eventually sign up for classes."—Meguire Hennes

    Jordan Chiles, 2024

Jordan Chiles attended the US Open 2024 in a pleated mini skirt and chunky sneakers

The Olympian channeled Serena in a pleated mini skirt and statement sneakers.

"Olympian Jordan Chiles was a whole vibe at the 2024 US Open. Her pleated skirt and collegiate cardigan were such a cute way to bring her personal style courtside. I love the way she added a bit of girliness with the pearl necklace to contrast the super-sporty look!"—Christina D'Ambrosio, deputy director, social

    Sarah Pigeon, 2025

Sarah Pidgeon styled a striped button-down and dark jeans at the 2025 US Open

Sarah Pidgeon stole the show at her first US Open in 2025.

"I didn't need to binge Love Story to fall for Sarah Pidgeon's sense of style. Her jeans outfit at the 2025 US Open made me her No. 1 fan—six months before the first episode aired. Putting Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy-coded minimalism on the back burner, the actor tucked a striped button-down into indigo-dyed denim (my favorite shade, by far).

If Pidgeon scored tickets to the 2026 US Open, too, I'd suggest continuing her stripes streak: Zimmermann, Loewe, and Ralph Lauren endorsed the pattern as a major Fall 2026 mainstay."—Meguire Hennes

    Barbra Streisand, 1992

Barbra Streisand was spotted at the US Open in an all-white outfit

Barbra Streisand's all-white look from '92 is still on my mood board.

"Barbra Streisand only visited the US Open once, 32 years ago. Even so, her all-white outfit lives rent-free in my head. If I ever score tickets, catch me in the Grammy winner's summer whites, from her bucket hat to her statement sneakers. The rounded sunglasses upped her tennis attire's Nantucket-ready aura."—Meguire Hennes

    Britney Spears, 1999

Britney Spears styled a yellow skirt set at the 1999 US Open

In '99, Britney Spears sang the national anthem in her take on method dressing.

"Not to mix my pop girl metaphors, but Britney Spears's 1999 US Open outfit is the Sporty Spice ideal. She matched her long-sleeve tee and mini skirt to an extra-large tennis ball for her photo op. The more I flip through the archives, the more I'm tempted to copy her chunky sneakers, if not the entire on-theme outfit."—Halie LeSavage

    Beyoncé, 2016

Beyoncamp;eacute; attended the 2016 US Open in a printed skirt set and a matching trench coat

Beyoncé looked oh-so chic in a must-copy skirt set at the 2016 tournament.

"Whenever I'm feeling little white dress fatigue (which is often in the summer), I study Beyoncé's 2016 US Open outfit for inspiration. On day four, she sat courtside in a taupe-and-white top from For Love Lemons. Its floral cutout bodice just barely peeked out from underneath a Zimmermann trench coat. She hasn't attended the US Open since, but I have hope for her grand return this year."—Meguire Hennes

    Lori Harvey, 2025

Lori Harvey attended the US Open in 2025, wearing Burberry

Lori Harvey was the star of the 2025 US Open.

"Can you truly call it the US Open if at least one celebrity isn't sitting courtside in a shirtdress? Last year, Lori Harvey filled that role—dressed in head-to-toe Burberry, no less. I appreciated that the short-sleeve style wasn't a stark shade of Wimbledon-ready white. It almost looked more luxe in a cool-toned khaki color. Her simple accessories were a Grand Slam, too, especially the teeny-tiny tennis bracelet."—Meguire Hennes

    Kaia Gerber, 2026

Kaia Gerber arrived at the 2026 US Open in a little black dress, peep-toe pumps, and a Fendi Baguette in the animal-print bag trend

Kaia Gerber took fashion editors' breath away before her first US Open match.

"When Kaia Gerber arrived at an unofficial pre-tournament match in Aug. 2026, I assumed she was a season ticket holder. Plot twist: She just made her US Open debut in the perfect LBD by Yana Matkiviski, a tiger-print Fendi Baguette, and the peep-toe pumps trend. So Carrie Bradshaw-coded."—Meguire Hennes
