In January 2023, the genre-bending Netflix hit Ginny Georgia returned for its second season, filled with laughs, tears, and another huge cliffhanger. The small-town thriller picked up right where season 1 ended, as Ginny (Antonia Gentry) was left reeling after learning that her mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) murdered her late stepfather to protect her. Throughout the season—which thankfully didn't keep Ginny away from Wellsbury for long—both the mother and daughter had to reckon with Georgia's past, which continued to haunt Georgia in the lead-up to her wedding with town mayor Paul (Scott Porter).

Like the first installment, Ginny Georgia season 2 ended with many unanswered questions, including a final scene that completely blows up the Millers' lives. It's an ending that demands another season, and after several months of waiting, Netflix has just given word on when viewers can return to Wellsbury Read on for everything we know so far about Ginny Georgia season 3.

Has 'Ginny Georgia' been renewed for a third season?

Yes! Netflix announced in May 2023 that Ginny Georgia was renewed for both season 3 and season 4(!). They dropped the long-awaited news during their Upfronts presentation, revealing that Sarah Glinski will join the series as showrunner for season 3, replacing Debra J. Fisher.

The news came four months after the January 2023 premiere of season 2, which hit No. 1 on the streamer as soon as it dropped and remained within the Top 10 most popular shows for several months. Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters also name-checked Ginny Georgia as a "phenomenal US success" in a Bloomberg interview. (The one where they claimed that they've "never canceled a successful show.")

When will 'Ginny Georgia' season 3 come out?

After a long wait, Netflix has announced that Ginny Georgia will return for season 3 on June 5, 2025. The new episodes will arrive 29 months after season 2's debut in January 2023, marking one of the longest breaks between seasons for a Netflix original.

Who are the new cast members joining 'Ginny Georgia' season 3?

In September 2024, Netflix marked the end of filming on season 3 by revealing two new cast members joining Wellsbury High. According to Variety, Manifest alum Ty Doran will play "Wolfe, a laid-back student in Ginny’s poetry class who is not particularly interested in academics." Also, Noah Lamanna will portray "Tris, a brainy skateboarder and a peer tutor who is a close friend of Marcus and Silver."

What will season 3 of 'Ginny Georgia' be about?

Just when we thought that season 2 would end with the beautiful scenes of Georgia and Paul's town hall wedding (that cape! that dress! Milkshake!), it was ruined as PI Gabriel and the cops crashed during the couple's first dance, arresting Georgia for the murder of Cynthia's husband, Tom Fuller. Of all of Georgia's past crimes, she finally got caught for the most recent—the one with an actual witness. Unfortunately, that witness was her son Austin, who assured Ginny that he "didn't tell anyone" before running off behind the cop car that was taking his mother to jail. (They really need to get that kid into therapy.)

Season 3 is set to begin in the immediate aftermath of Georgia's arrest. The official synopsis reads: "Georgia (Brianne Howey) has just been arrested for murder during her wedding—ruining her fairy tale ending and putting the spotlight on the Millers like never before. It's always been Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia against the world, but the world has never come for them quite like this. Now, Ginny needs to see where she stands when push comes to shove—is the two of them against the world something Ginny really wants to sign up for?”

There are so many threads that the show needs to explore just based on Georgia's arrest: How can Georgia get out of jail? Will Paul continue to stand by her and the kids? Has the arrest tanked his re-election chances? Where do things stand with Cynthia and Georgia? What will Ginny and Austin's reactions be now that they know the truth about their mother's past? There's also the question of Gil, who plans to keep fighting for custody of Austin and will likely try to use Georgia's arrest to his advantage. Amid all that, the show must balance its core relationships, including Ginny and Marcus' post-breakup friendship (relationship? situationship?) and the simmering attraction between Georgia and Joe.

In January 2023, creator Sarah Lampert assured fans that there was a plan to balance the "surprises" the creative team has in store for season 3. She also told Deadline that Ginny and Georgia will probably evolve into a different form in the new season.

She explained that season 3 will look "really different" now that it's centered on "a woman who was a superhero at what she did, and now she’s been caught...It’s almost like Superman got taken down. We’ll see if she can get out of this mess she’s found herself in."

Is there a trailer for 'Ginny Georgia' season 3?

Let's go, girls! Netflix dropped the official season 3 trailer about a month before the premiere date. The tense clip shows the Millers stressed and nervous about what's to come, and even facing adversaries throughout "murder" bricks through their window, considering Georgia could be sentenced to life in prison.

"My mom’s awaiting her murder trial, and everyone at school is looking at me like I'm in the circus. It’s fun," Ginny says sarcastically. Though she seems to want to fervently stand by her mom, it appears the teen will also be wrestling with questions of morality, as she also says, "I am trying so hard to protect her, I don’t even know if it’s the right thing to do."

As for Georgia, expect to see her spending a lot of time in the courtroom and at home, where she's on house arrest with an ankle bracelet. It looks like she's bringing her game face to trial, though, and will do whatever she can to defend her case. "I’m not a bad person, but if you come face-to-face with bad, you become a little bit bad yourself," she says.

The clip ends with Georgia saying their family is ride or die, to which Ginny asks why they have to die—so we better buckle up!

If you're eager for even more footage, you can also watch a teaser. Though the video is brief, it shows Georgia presumably beginning the new episodes in jail and later having to stand trial.

"What happens when everything falls apart? The rug can be pulled out from under you in a second," Ginny's voiceover says, as she and her mother are escorted through a police station.

"Don't you want to ask if I did it?" Georgia eventually says to someone before shots of her in a courtroom (dressed in all pink, of course!) play.

What have the cast and crew said about season 3?

Lampert also touched on several characters' love lives in the wide-ranging Deadline interview, including Georgia and Joe, Ginny and Marcus, and Maxine and Silver. When asked whether Ginny and Marcus could get back together, she hinted that some big changes could happen once the writers start working.

"In terms of season 3, all bets are off," she said. "Maybe there are new characters, who knows? We don’t have a season 3 yet. The process of the writers's room is very much, [showrunner Debra J. Fisher] and I going in with our plan. We have it all planned out, we have some really structured ideas of what we want it to look like. But then in the writers's room, everything always changes, you have so many more brains coming to the table, and you have a better idea... The best idea wins in the writers's room, so I could tell you right now what the plan is, and it might not be at all what shows up on screen."

Gentry has her own opinion on whether the teens should end up back together, telling TV Guide that they should probably stay friends for now. (After all, Ginny has a lot going on.)

"Ginny has that layer of like, 'My mom's a killer,' all this stuff," she told the outlet. "I think they should be friends right. I think they need to be there for each other in a way that doesn't have strings attached."

Fisher also shared her thoughts on the show's future with The Hollywood Reporter in January 2023, revealing that the creative team had a plan to end the show on saeson 4.

"We’re not writing any scripts or anything like that, but we know where we want to go. We would love to get in a writers room up and running to get going with this. Seeing everybody watch the show and seeing all the excitement for the show, I will say that it’s been hard to not think about season three and where we want to go. Because when Sarah and I pitched the show to Netflix, we did pitch four seasons, so we know what we want the end game to be. We know what we want the last episode to be," Fisher said.
