Milan Fashion Week Is Giving Me My Best Fall Outfit Ideas

I’m approximately 4,000 miles away from Milan, Italy, where the Spring 2027 Fashion Week circuit is in full swing. While I’m not sitting front row at Prada or Jil Sander, I’m there in spirit! I’ve been tracking the shows nonstop, and I’ve also been paying close attention to all the chic street stylers posing outside each venue. Let me tell you, these MFW attendees know a thing or two about how to master the season’s latest trends. And you better believe I’m taking notes.

One showgoer fearlessly styled the bold tomato red color trend, which has been dominating the It-girl crowd for the last few months. Elsewhere, a savvy MFW guest opted for sheer separates—a sultry look that was recently spotted across the NYFW runways of Khaite, Coach, and Magda Butrym. Meanwhile, Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Nikki Ogunnaike wore a high-neck poet-core top, which just so happens to be one of Fall 2026’s most viral blouse trends.

Tomato, Tomahto

Shades of tomato red emerged across the Spring 2027 runways of Prada, Tod’s, and Marni—and it didn’t stop there. Outside the MFW show venues, attendees proudly championed the vibrant shade in various ways. This chic dresser did so with a soft sweater, which she styled tactfully over a button-down for a layered look. Complete with a skirt, slingbacks, and a dainty handbag, it reads incredibly polished.

Neck and Neck

If there’s a competition on how to style the high-neck top trend, Ogunnaike has already won. She approached the look with a white ruched blouse tucked into black wide-leg jeans, grounding her outfit with mesh pumps and a stringy bag for a whimsical twist.

Diaphanous Dressing

Although wearing sheer clothing might seem intimidating, it doesn’t have to be. Here’s how to style the risqué look without feeling overexposed: simply layer a transparent piece of outerwear over a modest, full-coverage dress. You can also add sheer high-knee socks into the mix as a fun way to enhance the look even further.

Feral Fashion

From tiger stripes to leopard spots, animal prints aren’t going anywhere this season. So, you might as well embrace the fierce trend in a way that commands attention. Do just that with a floor sweeping frock that roars, “Look at me.” Finish things off with a polished blazer, a set of shimmering gold earrings, and a hardware-adorned handbag. You’ll receive endless compliments.

Off to Capri

While capri pants get their name from the gorgeous Italian island off the Sorrentine Peninsula coast, you don’t have to be abroad to wear them. Style these cropped bottoms wherever you are this autumn with a funnel-neck jacket, sculptural shoes, and a polished purse—as seen above.

A couple of years ago, I saw Bella Hadid wearing a double belt and it totally took me by surprise. Never in my life have I thought of wearing two belts at once, but Hadid made it look so cool that I had to incorporate the unconventional trend into my own wardrobe.
